the sound is working. the steps i took are the following:
. use 2.4.18 kernel with sound enabled, but no compiled-in cards. . install _not_ debian-'sarge'-provided alsa packages, but the latest stable versions from www.alsa-project.org (i.e. version 0.9.2), including 'alsa-drivers', 'alsa-lib', 'alsa-utils'. installation follows the advice in the matrix 'http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/' -> click on 'intel i810 details'. . that's all. open issues: the playback is sputtery, but at least the speed seems okay. cheers, markus
