I've been trying for the past two weeks to get the i810 audio chipset to work under GNOME in Sid.
I've checked the permissions on the appropriate devices /dev/sound, and /dev/mixer. I made sure that my user account was in the audio group, and I've even tried to compile a new kernel (unsuccessfully, I seem to be having some unrelated problems on that front.) Still no luck. The pages I've been able to find, describe this as an easy thing to get working (unlike ACPI, which I also need to address. This laptop gets HOT! :)) Anyone have any ideas? Here's what appearing in /var/log/dmesg: Intel 810 + AC97 Audio, version 0.21, 10:28:09 Apr 14 2002 and in /var/log/messages: Dec 12 21:32:59 callisto kernel: Intel 810 + AC97 Audio, version 0.21, 10:28:09 Apr 14 2002 and, finally in /var/log/boot: Fri Dec 12 21:32:52 2003: Loading i810_audio module.
