I fully agree with Guilhem here. We should split out

Probably this bugreport should be closed, no? To my understanding, the
Linux kernels in Debian are all patched to fix this problem and besides,
cryptsetup packages in Unstable and Stretch are fixed to work with the
backwards-incompatible changes anyway since quite some time.

To install using yaird you must first install and boot a kernel

competition: Do you prefer discovering possible bugs closer to relea

Great. The mentioned patch is included with new upstream release

Indeed. Let's both include our different arguments from this thread
into that page and point to that instead of repeating ourselves here :-)

Thanks!
For the first half involving KNOPPIX one could also use GRUB (or
similarly capable bootloaders) and make sure to always keep an older
kernel version installed to use in case of upgrade problems like this.
Still, it is indeed a bug that should be fixed!

2.4.x, but
I fail to understand why that is of higher severity than "normal".
This is a known issue. But thanks for filing a bugreport about it to
make it more visible.
Are you aware of http://wiki.debian.org/InitrdReplacementOptions
comparing the various ramdisk tools?

if the problem persists. If it does then we need to solve the problem,
if not then file a bug whereever you found your unsupported driver.

d fail...
I believe the non-failure with non-sysfs was a bug that got fixed in
0.0.12.
Please test: To my knowledge yaird should now fail if not satisified
with its findings (and drivers lacking sysfs support does not satisify!)

The output of "debconf-show debsums" is probably more interesting.
And perhaps read the description associated with the question asked
when running "dpkg-reconfigure debsums
with lengthy details for bugreports you
could either compress it or put it somewhere on the web and only refer
to it with a URL.
