Now that x.org 6.9 reached sid, this also happens in sid, now.
The strange thing is that the menu key on my system still acts as compose
as though the option hadn't disappear. Only the ability to configure

So, what is supposed to be the problem ? If you have all the fonts
required for these glyphes, there's no problem. I see no problem with
chinese, japanese, russian, arabic, etc. nor with the euro sign.
Try installing some other fonts.
