The problem is that since upstream is built with gcc 3.4, and debian's
is build with gcc 4.0, the extensions you will find on the net that use
a binary component (which are a very few) will more than probably be built
with gcc 3.4. When gcc 4.0 built firefox loads that, it breaks... And
that also explains why it didn't crash when you tried with upstream
firefox.

Now the problem is... there's few we can do :(
