especially confusing that NetworkManager indicated that the connection
to the network was successful, despite the fact that dhclient had
failed.

Firefox does not support XUL extensions anymore, and upstream says that
it is not possible to rewrite classic-theme-restorer as a WebExtension
because of the reduced API of WebExtensions as compared with XUL
extensions.
