Would it be worth making the upper limit for /boot be 1.5G, and using a
scaling factor (if possible) that will only use that much for disks
larger than 1TB, say, as then its a small enough proportion to be no

Then you get to override that in a script without
worrying about also setting the seen flag at that point.

of preseeding, DHCP and DNS that should already ensure that it is asked.

as Daniel points out, you're missing 'string' in these (as I then copied ...
oops!)
In the above, in the commented section you're setting it to false before
setting the value, so that only survives for a moment before being
automatically set again, and in the lower attempt you're setting 'seen'
to 'true' (which prevents the question being shown, and is red
s of packages that get changed in the git log as well
as the changes to files under /etc when you upgrade packages.

No worries, but I think you need to fact-check your assumptions in
future.

Having done that one can exit that shell, and then select the first
option (Execute shell in /dev/...) and you're away.

instead, without it having a checkbox next to it, that would have been
done, but AFAIK that is not currently possible with the way that the
menu is assembled.
Sadly, that's rather misleading.

ptions
"adaptions" strikes me as slightly odd english -- I think
"customisations" or "adjustments" would be a better choice.
On the other hand the preceding sections are about how we accommodate
people's preferences via debconf settings, so this is actually quite a
departure from that, because it's something that people want to change
that has to be done outside debconf, so the section heading should
probably refer to that difference somehow.
How about "Variations requiring manual intervention"?

Once salsa stops being grumpy (it's momentarily unable to pull docker
images it seems) I'll try adding a new preseed_alias to test that idea.

an-installer/exit/poweroff' as mentioned here:
https://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/apbs04.en.html#preseed-finish
which means that you could specify such a setting on the kernel command
line when starting debian-installer to get the behaviour you want.
