Sorry, I was away for the weekend
Garmin GPSMAP 740 dims automatically as daylight turns to dusk and to dark. I
do nothing. There is a manual adjustment somewhere in the menus as well. I
think in the settings you can turn the auto dimming feature on or off

After Bill's email about the 75mg dose, I though I might have mis-spoken on
the 15mg dose I've been buying and using for years.
I confirmed with my stash at home - 15mg is what I use and what you'll find
in the drug stores in Bermuda, BVI, UK, etc.

Guys,
Wanted to report that I stupidly ordered a new halyard from APS in December,
not thinking that they would be having sale in January. Well, they, on their
own, held the order into January and gave me the 25% off. Nice people.
BTW, enjoyed the Chicago Boat Show this weekend.

Was removing my mixing elbow for replacement, (weld is leaking). Has
anyone had theirs rewelded? A new one is $225. I think the new one is
stainless.
At the same time I noticed rust along the bottom of the oil cooler. Is this
an indication that the oil cooler is about to fail?

Great story about APS and glad you shared it.
I had a similar experience w Defender.
Before I knew about the Warehouse Sale at Defender, I ordered a bunch of stuff
before their big sale. Their marketing person actually emailed me and suggested
I wait a week. I did and saved about 15% over what
I shop in the APS store. I'm not surprised they honored the sale. Nice
people!
I tried to buy a PLB from defender on sale. Someone bought it off the shelf
so they sold me a different one at the sale price after the sale was over.
Pyacht big sale is Presidents' Day weekend.

It is not surprising that dealing with APS and Defender as a manufacturer is
also a pleasant experience as compared to other larger marine chain stores.
Not only do they train their employees to be knowledgeable about what they

If it's a Yanmar, the mixing elbow should be considered a consumable. I
replace ours every 1000 hours or so. I doubt the new one is stainless, they
have been silver cast iron forever.
I know nothing about oil coolers.

There are new aftermarket elbows being made of stainless steel. Not that
it matters but these are not OEM. Look around and you may find a polished
one. Dress up the engine room a bit. I see them on ebay all the time.
You can get the whole mixing elbow, nipple, and exhaust "riser" as one
package
