Agree. The first America Cup contenders were schooners, then sloops of 120 ft,
sponsored by the rich elite with names such as Vanderbuilt, JP Morgan, Sir
Thomas Lipton.
The 12 meter yachts used after WWII were less expensive
out wealthy people's egos, not national pride.

Just had the incredible good fortune to attend a viewing of this afternoon's AC
races over-commentated by Dave Perry. I challenge anyone to say that the racing
was not exciting Having Dave's perspectives was just awesome!
