Thanks Nick and everyone for the thread. I need to do the same. Last year I
bought an adjustable main jet (because of the altitude here) and still need to
install it.

Removing the carb is not that hard. If you are going to the effort, however,
have it rebuilt while it is off. Moyer has a kit which includes all the
gaskets, jets, etc., for the job and a carburetor rebuilding service is most
likely in your area. Good investment.

Shouldn't be difficult like others said.
It should be a Bendix Zenith carb. Parts often available at your local
NAPA. Take it in and show it to them.
Be careful not to bend or alter the bracket that is attached to the float.
It needs to properly close the needle valve.

It's not very difficult, just 2 bolts and the fuel line if I'm not mistaken. I had a viking 33 with the A4. I kept a few carbs around. One all cleaned up and ready to go, on board, One installed and one would be the one I took off to clean again. With gas the way it is now, it became a regular

Also I think from the sounds of it you may have a stuck valve or 2 or 3. They

Was it completely overhauled ( camshaft removed ) ? looks like an issue with
spark at the wrong time ( if there is spark at the plugs, not only the coil
).Make sure the distributor is correctly installed for the firing order (

Joel,
The Atomic 4 is a simple engine to work on.
In addition to Moyer, you might contact Old Lyme Marina in Connecticutt. I
got parts from them when I was resurrecting my old AT4.
Here's what I did to resurrect it after 10 years or so of it being idled.
1. Pulled plugs and poured a tablespoo
There is also an Atomic 4 Facebook group.

Chances are you will not need a new motor. This is a very simple motor and you
could rebuild the thing with basic tools. There are also lots of parts
available for this engine. Moyer has a forum you could join and ask all your
questions there. My last boat had an A4 and I was on that group.
First thing first, I would do a compression test to determine how good the
motor is. The best upgrades I did where electric fuel pump, electronic
ignition, coil, Indigo electronics thermostat kit which helps with the rear
cylinder running cool and gumming up the valves.
