EPIRBs offer a couple of other benefits - they float upright, and some have strobes. My PLB has to be held upright so the antenna is properly oriented. I guess it depends on your intent - will you be beyond a reasonable 24 hour rescue? Single handed (with PLB attached) or full crew? Graham
