PHRF in most regions would assess a penalty for going beyond the forestay, so check with your area before you buy. Tim Mojito C&C 35-3 > On Dec 7, 2013, at 4:07 PM, Chuck S wrote: > > I share your frustration finding/keeping experienced crew for racing. There > are so many other things going

Eric - Got it. When the Js get on a plane there isn't a lot you can do. I still wouldn't go back to syms. Asyms are so much easier and a lot more efficient sail when reaching - which we're doing 90% of the time off the wind. Good luck with the project. From: CnC-List [mailto:cnc-l

I share your frustration finding/keeping experienced crew for racing. There are so many other things going on, family commitments, work, travelling, in everyone's life, it's hard to get a strong commitment from enough people to field a strong team on a regular basis. I like the two handed races

Neil, Agreed, but I think that these are different boats. I guess the wider the boat, the more true what you say is. Obviously, centerboard dinghies use that (the CB moves outside and provides the righting moment). I was always under impression that traditional keel boats (especially the older one

Mike, Bill - Here’s an excerpt I was given from LMPHRF: Handicapping Spinnakers 2009 * Both symmetrical and asymmetrical spinnakers are allowed and both may be used while racing. * LMPHRF assumes spinnakers are tacked to a spinnaker pole, prod, bowsprit or are tacked to the center

Eric - I'm going through the same exercise right now. We've been racing 2 yrs with an asym not on a sprit but tacked to the forepeak. We mostly do mid-distance/point to point races and less frequently do buoys. We've had good luck in the light air around here, but struggle against the sym boat

Hi all, My winter project this year is to install a deck mounted bowsprit and fly an asymmetric spinnaker while racing. I am going for the max length with out a PHRF penalty, which in our YRA is 24% of J. This will give me a sprit that is 42.6 inches. This decision is driven by a couple things.
