Yup. It's pretty hard to beat a well rigged ketch on a beam reach.
That's a lot of luff length running ahead of you.

A ketch?? That won't help to slow flag accumulation.
I took first in fleet in the 60+ boat Caribbean 1500 twice in a row in
ketches. First, in a friend's HR49 ketch in 2008, then again in
Bojangles (Gulfstar 50 ketch) in 2009.
The sloops were all left to battle for second place.

Orgo to a hobby shop and get some model airplane paint and some small

You can try mixing Marine Tex starting with the grey maybe? Add blue and black
in varying ratios. The trick is to mix very small amounts without adding the
hardener. You mix a teaspoon amount and dab small samples right on the transom
until you get a close enough match. It's trial and error. You

I like the SS helicoil idea. I think it may make using the existing holes a
little more difficult. I guess my feelings on the lag screws were that, they
held those handrails in place for a VERY long time. So, it must be an
acceptable way to install them. The Butyl is so pliable that it will

One thing I used on my other boat for installing deck hardware was barrel
bolts. You can back them with fender washers and they are a very elegant
solution. Far better than acorn nuts.

I put brass inserts in the wood, so now I screw 10-24 oval heads into it,

Hello again,
