Just to complete the thread on +-,
SFT-D (offset dir) and OFFSET (value) function only in VFO mode.
+ OR - shown /only/ in VFO mode.
MR mode uses and stores explicit RX and TX frequencies.
+- (both) is shown for all channels in MR mode.

I had just finished a session with another ham where I explained CTCSS on
several radios. I thought that the UV-5s showed + or -, like the others. I was
wrong. I just checked them both. It's just as you wrote. Thanks for the comment.

I have the BaoFeng UV-5RTP and the BTECH UV-5X3. I program them with chirp, and
nary a problem. The images that show both +- on at the same time give me pause.
I don't have any experiences with Baofeng, Kenwood, Icom, and Yaesu that has
them both on. So...is there some way to do a factory reset
When I want to use 2 radios to check, I either place one in another room with
the volume up so that I can hear it, or I place it farther away, and use my
phone to record a few minutes, giving me time to return to the first radio and
send a test message, return and stop the recording.

You can't upload one img file to both radios. You must consider all radios as
different and download from each before editing and uploading.

Score another point for Linux - it does not care if the chip in your cable
is a fake Prolific, it just works anyway! There is also a driver available
for Mac that can handle the fake Prolific chips. It seems only Windows has
this problem.

Being programmable by Chirp has NOTHING to do with fake chips. That's a Windows
driver issue.

chirp. I'm using Xubuntu 18.04 and current daily CHIRP version.
Best regards.

You might also consider that you have a fake radio. I eventually
discovered that I have one. It works but the radio is not programmable
via Chirp.

Does anyone have any experience with the BAOFENG UV-5R8W? I Just got one from
ABBREE through Amazon. Has anyone had success with any type of software for
programing? This is supposedly a three power model. I have tried a few models
