Thanks for the help John,

I had a fully working 5.0.1 installation with my Quantum Scalar i40 library
that has 2 drives, after upgrading to 5.2.3 my backups started failing, I then
upgraded to 5.2.6 hoping that something had been fixed no such luck.
What it looks like is that bacula is not properly unloading the tape, or
Ok, fixed the problem, thanks for you help though. It helped me
understand how the mtx-changer script works. Because it dumps the
output of mtx to a temp file, and we were out of disk space on that
drive, it would create the temp file but nothing would be in it so
nothing to parse. Anyway fixed,
Ok I reviewed all of the things you suggested, here is what I found.

Hello, I've been running 2.0.3 now for a few months and today we have a
problem that I can not resolve.
We have a tape library with 24 slots. When I do an update slots on
bconsole I get this output:
*update slots

I would suggest looking at and testing the mtx-changer command, since it
parses the output of the MTX command. I have found that for my auto
changer i had to tweek the script since my output was slightly different
than what was expected.

New Bacula user here- I've gone over the config documentation a number
of times and I hope I'm missing something small...but I'm having issues
with 2-Sun L25s linked together with a Quantum StackLink on Debian etch

I've had the same issues with both the prepackaged De
Hi!
I want to replace Arkeia 4 with bacula 1.36.3 running on a Solaris 2.6
machine with a HP C5713A DDS 4 autochanger. I think I've already managed
to configure everything but bacula failes very often because it's not
able to run mtx-changer properly. It looks like the device is busy. I'm

Kern,
I don't think so, check out the later replies from Nathan. It's a
permission prob, something's funky with his Ubuntu install.
Cheers!

I'm sort of at a loss here:

disk:x:6:bacula
tape:x:26:bacula

I was having this exact problem. Try checking the permissions on both
the tape and changer devices. The bacula user should be part of the
Operator group, which should have permission to manipulate these two
devices.

FWIW, in Ubuntu and Debian /bin/mt is part of the cpio package.
I'm stracing bacula-sd right now to see if that points me anywhere.
