I'm currently looking for an alsa supported soundcard with working spdif
input (optical input preferred).
I'd like to record stuff from an external source and have a look at the
digital frames, ie. I'd like to do some kind of el-cheapo analysis.

Yes, this is perfectly normal, unless your card has a hardware mixer
(few do). You can however use more than one Jack enabled applica

Yes, it is. I don't know why either, but I believe it has something
to do with CAP_SETPCAP,
Anyone using ALSA on AMD64? If you do, which soundcard?
Any issues on that platform?
