Used the wiki.debian.org/snd-maestro3 walk-thru and the alsamixer doesn't work.

Thanks to Jordi Mallach:
The Alsa modules need to be updated to 1.16 for the maestro3.
(m-a is the module assistant, you may need to get that first).
aptitude alsa-source
m-a prepare
m-a build alsa
m-a install alsa
I tried alsaconf first, but needed to reboot to get it working.

When I record on (inbuilt) mic on DELL laptop, I get constant background
"tic tic tic" - may be at about 100 bpm or something:
arecord -r 44100 t.wav
I get the same when recording using ardour, eg. the following signal
path:
ardour <- jack <- alsa
Is it a maestro3/ inbuilt mic problem?

Can anyone offer some advice on the Maestro3.
Trying to install a Magic I/O PCI card using ESS ES1988 Allegro-1 chipset

ALSA drivers/libs and utils all compile fine. Modprobe works fine and module
appears to load into the kernel without error.

Does the maestro3 driver in alsa-0.9 support 4-channel? I know that the
hardware can, but has it been implemented? If not, which drivers do
support this feature?
Thanks

Hi,
I have problems with those 2 cards. I have installed alsa on many
computers, for many cards, but I have many unsolved problems with these
soundcards (I'm using alsa 0.9 beta8a).

just a black screen when starting. Anyone else experienced this problem? Any
idea how to get around it? btw, other openAL games seem fine... kohan, sof, etc.
