Sound Dudes:
I have an EMU1212M with no audio dock working fine in Win XP Pro but Fedora
12 does not recognize it.
When I run alsamixer, I get one Master Input that is not adjustable.
cat /proc/asound/version

You will need to install newest firmware, as mentioned in this thread
earlier. You can also install newer alsa, not sure if there were any
changes recently.
Btw, reason that 1010 card is called that way is because of this:
8 ADAT channels + 2 S/PDIF channels = 10 total channels

I can't say for sure if it is 10 input/outputs. There is a break-out box

48v phantom mic. inputs and a couple of rca inputs. It also have two
MIDI in/out ports. It also have an RIA filter input for grammophone and

I'm nearly sure (but need to be prouved) that 1212M and 1820M use the
same base : E-MU 1010 PCI card, with I/O ADAT and I/O SPDIF, so 10
inputs and 10 outputs, plus firewire port and a plug who look like an
RJ45 port.
The 1212M has a daughter board, E-MU 0202 I/O daughter card : 2 analog
inputs +
Hallelujah !!!
Playback is now working !
With this line :
aptitude install alsa-source build-essential
My problem was resolved !
Many thanks to everybody.
I'll look for others functions later (recording, ADAT,
multitracking, ...), but it's already great for me.
Have a big time and thanks again
You need build-essential and alsa-source. Install them using:
aptitude install alsa-source build-essential
as it will install the recommendations too.

Thanks to everybody for the replies
I've got alsa-firmware and try to execute your instructions.
Here's what happened :
domp:/home/dom/Paramètres# cd alsa-firmware-1.0.17
domp:/home/dom/Paramètres/alsa-firmware-1.0.17# ./configure

I'm pretty sure that analog capture works, or that it worked last time
I tried. Can't say anything about Optical or Coaxial.
On the other hand, I'm aware that driver has it's share of bugs. For
example if you try to sync to optical or coax if there is nothing
connected (not sure if it's both or jus
This card should work with Debian's default alsa, you just need to get
alsa-firmware package.
Take this ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/firmware/alsa-firmware-1.0.17.tar.bz2
Extract it
cd into a folder
./configure
make
(become root)
make install
Is this clear?

You don't need to do that. Assuming you're not running some old, out
of date Fedora release:
yum install qjackctl
That certainly works on Fedora 7 an

You guys are too good to me. I found the switch in alsamixer with the
Tab key and a little experimentation. Now U2 & Mary J. Blige's "One" is
in A minor, Led Zeppelin's "Dazed and Confused" is in E, and Chris
Aitken's "Mashed Potato Face" is in B Major. All is as it should be.
Thanks! Right whe

Yes -but that's the only way the 44.1 file sounds correct - when it's
played back at 48 - which it shouldn't be. And I can only do this in
audacity where I can choose the sample rate. In all other playback apps

OK, to use a player that cannot deal with changing the samplerate for
Jackd, use this command to start audio at 44100:
jack -d alsa -d hw:0 -r 44100

Yes. There it is. You'r playing a 44.1 file back at 48.

The HDSP mixer is for RME hardware only so don't expect that to work.
The sample rate of any given hardware is set when you launch jack. Do
this with qjackctl and you'll have a nice easy GUI for configuration.

One .ogg I'm trying to play has a bitrate of 160 kbps and sample rate of
44100 Hz.

The sample rates supported by emu 1212M are 44.1 all the way to 192 -
shouldn't that cover anything? I can't see any sample rate setting in
alsamixe
My new emu 1212M PCI soundcard is playing music a semitone higher than
it should. This is not a new problem - it's been that way since I
installed the soundcard (which was only a couple of weeks ago). I just
gave a bass guitar lesson and had my student put a capo on the first
fret to play along
