I get no sound on Ubuntu Cosmic on a Mac 27" bought recently (Apple product id
= iMac 18,3), neither from the integrated loudspeakers nor from the headset,
and no microphone works either.
I tried all the classical fixes one finds on the forums, like declaring in
/etc/modprobe.d/sound.c

hey i hope im in the right place, i installed ubuntu on my laptop (i'm not

a pseudo soundcard to other ALSA applications?
The idea is to define a client -> server application that gives
transparent access to a distant sound card to *all* ALSA applications.

I need help in getting ALSA to work with Mandrake 10.
All the ALSA drivers are loaded and configured correctly but when I attempt
to start amixer I get a error that says there is no soundcards. I have

lsa-driver-0.9.0beta12 and
removed "-card" from each entry. The attached file is the result of
that. I don't know whether this can be changed in the tarball or
not...but, for what it's worth, here it is.

I think the names changed around the time of beta11. I believe it had to
do with the way Linus wanted them to be named when they were added to
the 2.5.x kernel series.

a file in the /etc/modutils directory.
I put my alsa lines in the file /etc/modutils/aliases. You then need to
run the command update-modules which will assemble a new
/etc/modules.conf based on the files in the /etc/modutils directory.
For information on which lines need to be added see the a
the appropriate runlevel directories
(/etc/rc?.d) with update-rc.d.
On redhat it goes in /etc/rc.d/init.d (though I understand they will
soon be moving away from that to use /etc/init.d) and a utility for
managing the symlinks is chkconfig.

Apparently Suse 8.0 ships with the cvs version you mentioned above. That
is where the cvs development version stood on March 20th. So there isn't
an "official" beta version equiv
