There's one annoying inconvinience with snd_intel8x0 driver for Fujitsu
Siemens P7010 laptop. For whatever reason, the sound volume is
controlled only via the Headset volume. The setting of master does not
play any role. Since all of the desktop environments manipulate the
sound volume via
After upgrade of kernel to 2.6.20, alsa to 1.0.14rc1 and alsa-firmware
to 1.0.14 everything works fine. That is all frequencies and rates are
set properly and both playback and recording are great.

processor usage goes up, something happens with the alsa driver, that
causes arts to die, and with oss drivers I couldn't reproduce the error,

I know that's a bit rushed to comment about this topic but you might
want to look into it.
I just finished installing Severn with all things compiled behind me ...
I installed alsa 0.9.6 too , and the drivers work fine, but everything
else ... that uses it's libs dies with a segfault. (utils like
a
