I Managed to get it to work.
All I did was to change "pcm out" to "pre 3D" from "post 3D".
I still wonder how come the only fader that works is the master volume...

I down loaded alsa driver version 1.0.0 from alsa-project.org and
compiled for the platform redhat 2.1. While i am loading the module
'modprobe snd-intel8x0' it was giving unresolved symbol error. ( i
couldn't find snd-card-intel8x0)
so i went to the ./acore/memory_wrapper.c and .

In attempting to rid my logs of this, which I posted about yesterday,
I've now blown away the alsa-driver-1.0.4 src tree, and re-unpacked
it, then (while booted to 2.6.5-mm4, and without a link in the
/usr/src dir called linux, just linux-2.6 which links to the 2.6.5-mm4

when I apt-installed 'alsa-modules-2.4.25-1-686' I had a
2.4.18-bf2.4 kernel. I have since deleted it and installed
kernel-image-2.4.25-1-686 ... but alsa-modules are still
not recognised ... see below.
apt-get install alsa-modules-2.4.25-1-686
I'm trying to play AC3 streams via S/PDIF on my Revolution/ice1724 but
I'm not getting anywhere. The S/PDIF works fine with normal PCM but with
AC3 Mplayer fails to initialize ALSA. I've also experimented some with
AC3 files via aplay but then I only get white noise. :-(
Mplayer gives me this:
