Hi,
   when I apt-installed 'alsa-modules-2.4.25-1-686' I had a
2.4.18-bf2.4 kernel. I have since deleted it and installed
kernel-image-2.4.25-1-686 ... but alsa-modules are still
not recognised ... see below.

apt-get install alsa-modules-2.4.25-1-686
>Selecting previously deselected package alsa-modules-2.4.25-1-686.
>(Reading database ... 98043 files and directories currently installed.)
>Unpacking alsa-modules-2.4.25-1-686 (from
>.../alsa-modules-2.4.25-1-686_1.0.3+1_i386.deb) ...
>Setting up alsa-modules-2.4.25-1-686 (1.0.3+1) ...
>depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in
>/lib/modules/2.4.25-1-686/alsa/snd-ac97-codec.o
>depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in
>/lib/modules/2.4.25-1-686/alsa/snd-ad1816a-lib.o

[... and so on for a long time]

However when I try 'apt-get remove alsa-modules-2.4.25-1-686'
- intending a fresh install with a new kernel - I get

>The following packages will be REMOVED:
> alsa-modules-2.4.25-1-686
>0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 2 not upgraded.
>Need to get 0B of archives.
>After unpacking 3391kB disk space will be freed.
>Do you want to continue? [Y/n]
>(Reading database ... 98414 files and directories currently installed.)
>Removing alsa-modules-2.4.25-1-686 ...
>Storing ALSA mixer settings ... failed
>Shutting down ALSA (version 1.0.3): aborting. (sound used by PIDs 1449

>dpkg: error processing alsa-modules-2.4.25-1-686 (--remove):

So I can't use the alsa-modules I have, but apparently cannot remove them either.

Which directories do I delete ? I'm confused.

Constructive ideas appreciated.
