I have a usb microphone on device 0 and a via8235 on device 1. How can I configure
them so I can play and record on the appropriate devices? I can always say, "aplay -D
hw:1,0 file.wav", but that doesn't work for xmms or xine.

Hi,
I have successfully installed the alsa-driver-0.9.7 with my i8x0 (AC' 97) onboard
soundcard. However, I have 4 speakers (actually 5 if you include the subwoofer) but I
only get sound from the (two) front speakers.
Is there a way to get sound from the two rear speakers as well?

Hi,
I'm trying to get my RME hdsp-pci+multiface working using the latest
alsa 0.9.7a, and kernel 2.4.22 (with lowlat, preempt and 1000Hz patches).
And this is the output I get from hdsploader:

QAmix is pretty cool. I find it less cryptic and easier to use
than alsamixer.

Thank you for explainng to me.
I am very satisified with the answer.
I found setting Master volume to 100 and PCM volume to 75 is what I want.
But setting Master volume to 75 and PCM volume to 100 will cause sound
clicking.

Hi there.
I've recently reinstalled my system.
I installed kernel 2.4.22 with sound card support compiled as a module (and
no other drivers under sound compiled)
I installed the ALSA driver, library and utils package version 0.9.6.
The soundcard is an ISA SB16 PnP.
The system is a K6-2 300 on a C

I'm using ALSA 0.9.6 with VLC (on RedHat 9) to play back VideoCDs.
Everything works fine but audio is not perfect, it seems losing some

fraction of time).
Using 'vlc -vvv dvd:/dev/cdrom' I see that when the audio disappear

Does anyone know how I can use the SPDIF-Port on the Meastro 3i in my

I could not get it to output anything using quite a lot of experimenting

I appear to have missed something during Alsa installation and am unable to
get any sound out of my system's speakers. Here is what I get from the

replying to myself , the sound is ALSO distorted now even from the
analog outout (it worked well with 0.9.6) . It also seems to take a few
seconds (around 10) of fine playback and then the distortion starts.
Best regards ,
