İ have an asus a7v8x-x mobo and the nasty via8235 southbridge chip on it. i am using ALSA 0.9.7a and Linux 2.4.22 with low latency patch (Linux Fron Scratch 4.1 )...
it is not working stable i have some noise problems especially while running xmms. When modprobing i see the the fameous message says:
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 00:11.5 to 64
ALSA ../alsa-kernel/pci/via82xx.c:503: codec_valid: codec 0 is not valid [0x87e5370]
i change every option of dxs_channels=0,1,2,3 and unfortunetely nothing stable, i always have some noise and message :( .
with option 0 and 1, the sound is horribly distorted.. with option 2, when running xine for example, if i try to start esd, it starts (instead of saying "/dev/dsp is busy" !) and locks the process that need oss (e.g. mozilla) system
and i cannot kill xine and/or esd when i do "killall -9 xine" one process of xine remains intact and cannot be killed without re-booting..
with option 3, the dxs channels seem to work but when using xmms or another app with oss output it sometimes looses the clockrate end get noisy..
is there anyone uses the same mobo and having same problems ?
what do i need to have this chips sound portion work properly ? or do i have to close the sound
option from the bios and buy a new card ?
i need your suggestions..
thx.
