2496, Gentoo system, kernel 2.4.21SMP w/ low-latency
and preempt patches, and ALSA 0.95(Gentoo -r2 ebuild).
I get the same error when modprobe-ing just the intel
driver. If I also load the Delta driver, I get "aplay:

but I thought I would repeat it once more: the driver snd-es1968
handling the sound card ESS Maestro 2E that can be found in many laptops,
is buggy, you cannot record anything but garbage.

I\'ve done what you wrote, downloaded the latest patch from acpi.sf.net for 2.4.21
kernel, made the patching, make clean, make dep and make bzImage, make modules and
make modules_install, but the situation is still the same.

plugin in my asoundrc file and that works. i also understand that if you
call it "default" a well written program that uses alsa will choose to
use it.
However many alsa programs dont do this (MPlayer is a good example)

Seems that the problem is in the pci irq routing which should be done through acpi on
this laptop.
Appy latest patches from acpi.sf.net and try again with alsa;
no any "PCI: No IRQ known for interrupt pin .." messges should be present in dmesg
after it.
