does mplayer have no option to specify the pcm device name?

well, it would be possible by re-defining the pcm.hw.
pcm.hw is defined in /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf and you can override it
by your own definition with the '!' modifier.
it's pretty tricky, and i'm not sure whether it works :)
