I am using the cs-4236 sound card and am having issues
getting it to work after recompiling the kernal.

Hi Christian,
I've installed Redhat 9.0 on my ASUS P4PE and experienced the same

comes down to one of two problems:

I run kernel 2.2.25 and I am stuck with alsa-0.9.0rc5 . rc6 gives odd
messages from "alsactl restore" and any later version hangs any
process that tries to use

What exactly _is_ the problem? ie. what error message(s) do you get from

Does this .wav file have 6 channels? I don't think "aplay" can

DIFF 1:
In pcm.c, pcm->buffer can be 0. Since pcm_direct.c calls the function
snd_pcm_sw_params_get_silence_threshold() with value 0, the assert
fires. Now it's quite possible that I'm getting this wrong, but if

I searched the web for 4 days for information, with no success.
I have only 2 channel output or 4 channel with "duplicate front" and

I did not manage to enable my center-speaker nor my subwoofer.

Whenever it's in use by an application, system CPU usage goes up to
