for my VIA ac97 sound chip (via82cxxx_audio) doe snot work

I have tried to install ALSA, I did an apt-get
install for alsa-base, alsa-utils, alsa-headers, alsa-source, and I got

are you doing modprobe as root? i know that on my box i can't use
modprobe because it's in /sbin and that isn't in my path, but it is in
root's path.

I am having problems playing some .ram and .rm file on
Realplayer,some of them play fine but others gives a
very distorted output .
typicaly it plays anything with 32 Kbps but 34Kbps and
16Kbps don't play properly , they come out distorted .

The card is a Delta 44 with 4 inputs and 4 outputs. I compiled
