I think it depends on your definition of cache. Caching the result of some
computation that is related to the lifetime of a variable (but for any

change indexing configuration, you need to re-index. There is currently no way
to force reindexing, or reindex a specific message, so the only solution is to

AFAICT from the ORCID website, one use of ORCIDs is to mask personal
identity information. That suggests some policy is needed.
I think adding the field is fine. And I'm staying out of the
bikeshedding discussions about exactly how that field is formatted.
