I hope the first EO puts a moratorium on all funding until each program is
independently reviewed, historic outcomes are weighed and public hangings
commence.
All this free money has done was oversaturated some markets, pushed small
players out in exchange for monopolies in others and wasted money
That will help stabilize the price of the products too.

I presume some (most?) of you are getting BEAD money. This is purely
speculation at this point, but it's always good to keep your eyes open.

Yup. I agree.
I hope that will lessen the interest of private equity too.

Mark,
We're using Calix. I simply do a Mikrotik DHCP server. In time I may move
over to Kea. Both work with our billing software. All customers are u6x
with RG.

Most are DEFINITELY not prepared for BEAD. So much red tape, so much
bullshit.
I'd prefer it to just go away, but the government has to be the hero to
save the day (never mind it's spent millions and gotten 0 feet in the
ground).
We may try for it, we'll see what volume 2 says. It has been "soo
Same here. I see not just Starlink but 5G Home Internet (T-Mobile and
Verizon) and privately funded fiber racing to gain customers before BEAD
projects get built. If people are happy and the price is right, it's not
clear they would switch to the BEAD fiber once it gets built. And even with

That is kind of my point. I know several WISPs/FISPs in this area who
have been awarded significant money and are in various stages of deployment.

We are not expecting to see any for perhaps a year. Certainly 6 months.

I want bead money. I might be able to get a little. If I can’t get any I want
bead dead. Can’t you all say the same?

I think we are too deep into the process to yank it back. Most states have
already started, contracts have been signed.
Best we can hope for is some of the unne

Friends don't let friends take BEAD money.
I'm somehow reminded of the Hall & Oates song that was on the radio
yesterday, "Maneater". Watch out boy, she'll chew you up.

Yes, it was BEAD as far as I know (I'm not there, but I've seen some
people congratulating one another). Maybe it was some other program, but
the awards were 7 and 8 figures.

Personally, I want BEAD dead. It's a huge waste of tax dollars when the free
market has solved it.
There are numerous options for nearly every single American. Take that billion
dollars and pay off 1/36000th of our debt.

Mark,
With Calix this is a few settings in the VLAN config for the data service
vlan.
For a typical DHCP data vlan you'll probably want:
HEMLOCK-E7-2_1# show running-config vlan 121
vlan 121
description DHCP_DATA
l2-dhcp-profile SNOOP_SINGLE
source-verify ENABLED
mff ENABLED
!
It's powered via the light from the fiber. I bought a few for testing, they
work fine although it takes a lot of light to get enough RF power out to
run a normal household with ~4 TVs. We ended up using the powered ones for
that reason.
