Same here. I see not just Starlink but 5G Home Internet (T-Mobile and Verizon) and privately funded fiber racing to gain customers before BEAD projects get built. If people are happy and the price is right, it's not clear they would switch to the BEAD fiber once it gets built. And even with the subsidies, fiber providers may prefer to spend their own money to build in town where there is already a cable company offering 100/20 but with high prices and unreliable service so they can easily gain market share.
I wonder if Elon wants BEAD money for Starlink (I'm still not clear on how that would work), or just not to have government subsidized fiber take away potential customers. And as always, cellular and satellite providers want more spectrum. -----Original Message----- From: AF <af-boun...@af.afmug.com> On Behalf Of Jim Bouse [Brazos WiFi] Sent: Friday, November 8, 2024 11:03 AM To: AnimalFarm Microwave Users Group <af@af.afmug.com> Subject: Re: [AFMUG] OT: (and sorta not OT) Future of BEAD Personally, I want BEAD dead. It's a huge waste of tax dollars when the free market has solved it. There are numerous options for nearly every single American. Take that billion dollars and pay off 1/36000th of our debt.
