Hi
We are using the TSM4.1 W2K client with an ADSM 3.1 server, we get the
following errors in the dsmsched.log file. Th
front of your 3590
drives are next to impossible to read.
If you have any further questions about the 3494 I would be happy to help
out.

You state that you are running reclamation. What is the reclamation
threshold on your offsite copypool being set to? Check the status of your
offsite tapes. If the Pct Util for a volume is less than that of your
reclamation threshold, those volumes should be reclaimed(emptied) when you
run the
q volhist. See what it thinks the tape was last used for. The try and
figure out why it was checked out of the library.
That's a good start.

I have been involved with several, ADSM/TSM, Veritas' NetBackup, LEGATO etc.
What do you want. A rudimentary backup utility (that comes with its own set
of problems) or a true data/storage management system.
If you are trying to relieve your problems and headaches, my advice is to
stick with TS
ser that the file
is being restored for 'ulimits -a {u-id}'.
Hope this helps

Just an interesting little tidbit. I thought I would get around this little
quirk by calling my management class 'Default'. This would reduce the
confusion and it is a name that suits the class. YOU CAN'T. I stuck with
'standard'.

We also use ESP to schedule backups. However; we are only backing up AIX
boxes.
We simply run a script that fires off a 'dsmc inc' on the client, all
scheduling aspects are controlled via ESP.
I am not particularly fond of doing it this way as I like what the TSM
scheduler does for me.

I'll just add a note here
I just completed labeling and checking in 640 new 3590K tapes into a new

Every label operation reported an I/O error both in TSM and in the errpt on

some of them and there doesn't seem to b

Anyone have a nifty way to find out exactly which volume, specific backed up
files are located on.
I would like to build a restore script that will restore files in multiple
streams without one session waiting for a tape that is in use by one of my
other restore sessions.

Hi Gerardo,
Unless I am mistaken (others correct me if I am wrong)
The include/exclude list is read from the bottom up. By including /t/.../*
you have also included the 'tuxedo' directory and subdirectories. The would

QUESTION: Is there a way to pass a file list to the dsmc arch command in
place of the file spec? I know that I can issue the file names separated by

The tape status is full. Once a tape is full it will not be written to
again until it is reclaimed. The value of 30.4% represents the amount of
data on the tape that has not been expired in accordance with the policies

I think order of operations is important here.
This is what I do for tape returns:
1. Tapes that are in 'vaultretrieve' state are requested back.
2. Those tapes are changed to 'courierretrieve' state.
3. Daily, and prior to our offsite run, we run a checkin with search = yes
and status = private.
Does your 'WINDOWS' storage pool have a nextpool defined?
Have you tried assigning more than one tape to the Storage Pool?

This is typical of how Veritas sales people attack TSM. I had a Veritas

As far as I know. A tape can only be associated with one TSM session at a
time.
If I saw more than one session actively using the same tape, that would
scare me?

I have seen this happen once (long time ago) I did not get an answer from
IBM as to what caused the problem. However the following steps did fix the
problem:
1. check the tape out of the library with remove=no option.
2. Open up the library and put the tape in the recovery slot.
3. Check the tape
Only a working knowledge of your environment can answer this question.
How big of a disk pool are you looking at?
Do you do your database backups hot or cold?
Would you have any time constraints around resources (tape drives for one)?
Would you have to force migrations in order to free up drives o
