We are backing up 359 VMs distributed across 10 VMWare host machines. Our
datamovers are VMs. We have one datamover per VMWare host and each can do up
to 6 parallel sessions. From the dsm.opt we have the following options set:

It's been reported here that the restore time in the v8.1 CLIENT is much

Before you upgrade TSM or AIX, check out the level of bos.mp64 and
bos.iocp.rte. They need to be at 6.1.7.1 NOT at 6.1.7.0 for the fix. They
issued two version of AIX 6.1 TL7 SP0. You have to get the 2nd version of the

in your case) to a copy TSM storage pool (again tape). During this process
there should not be any N-Series involvement. It strictly a TSM tape to tape

This is a classic symptom of a firewall blocking the cad port. It works the
first time because the cad initiated the session and then the tsm server times
out the next time it reaches out to the client because the firewall is
blocking. So you have to use webports to designate what port cad is
on that port. If it connects, your plumbing is fine.

We reclaim our virtual tapes. They have the same waste patterns as physical
tape and are certainly as expensive.

Just installed TSM client 6.4.0.0 64 bit on a WIN 7 machine. Now when I try to
run dsmadmc as an Administrator, I get the following error:

Why? Because its different than a 3494. It uses IP to provide a web pages for
managing the library. It uses fibre channel to communicate with the host about
tape mounts/dismounts as well as actual data movement.
