Hi Steven,
Thanks for your reply. I'm not the one-man-band, I'm glad to say, but I sort of
run the TSM stuff at the moment for the Windows clients, including TDP *and* am
one of the people responsible for the Windows servers. Theses growing logfiles

We are having the same issue -- there seems to be some issue with the

We don't have a resolution yet.

Hi All,
I am still researching this, but it appears that in TSM 5.3, IBM
dropped the HTTPSport and COMMmethod HTTPS client config statements. We
want to use dsmcad for certain client restores, and want the communication
to be secure. Since dsmcad has a security vulnerability fixed in 5.4.1.
There are some patches that have to do with VSS issues which are only
available by request, they are:

Steve -
FWIW: Note that all TSM 5.x levels received that fix, if you're
thinking of the September alert. See Flash 1268775.

We have been having lots of problems lately, primarily due to network

In sql enterprise manager right click on the database and go to
properties. Look at the options tab put a checkmark in the shrink log
box. Within TSM from the sql gui check the truncate log box in the
backup tab.
Should do it.

The forthcoming TSM client for Macintosh v5.5 is going to be the first
client to support Leopard.
While the 5.4 client appears to work on Leopard, we've heard reports of
flaky behavior - not something we want to deal with - so we are advising
our users to wait for 5.5.

Nicholas,
On the GUI, under Service>Drive VPD, you can tie serial number to frame
and row, which can tie back to element under the drive menu. Use lscfg -v
info for serial numbers in AIX. It's a few steps, but all of the data can
be chained together.
Hope this helps!

Our standards folks are starting to look at application compatibility
with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, and I was asked if TSM runs on it.
Looking at IBM's system requirements page for the Mac, it only says
5.4.x run on 10.4.7 or higher.
Obviously, we can test TSM on Leopard internally, but I was curio
To prevent the problem in the future, in dsmserv.opt, add SANDISCOVERY ON.
(the default is off). With that enabled, TSM can usually reset the
element/serial numbers on the fly.

Yes, I've seen one aspect of this problem, frequently. The part about

could correct the problem was to stop and then start the Tivoli server.

Hello Tom
Interesting that the 3584 would load the tape in the gripper, you would think
that it would know what is in the I/O door.
I do not believe that we have seen this problem. We have seen tapes stuck in
the gripper, or gripper/hand hardware failures. But having a tape stuck in the

Tom,
Thanks. That's one way to tackle this issue, and it will work great for a
one-time-only thing, but if you want to do this regularly, following a
scheduled TDP Full+Log backup, this will become really hard, taking into
account that we have machines hosting 25+ databases.
I have been checking

Of the 2 grippers one was replaced a couple of weeks ago and both have
been working fine. I have not seen the system try to move a tape to the
door when it is full but I do see it consistently scan the door when it
is full. It could be possible a tape
