Hi
A Project Leader, as part of Disaster Recovery, has decided that the

should be on a separate m/c which is in different location from the
Notes Server.
Is this possible ?
Has anybody tried this successfully ? And how did you implement it ?
Currently we don't have transactio
Hi
I assume you mean that the notes transaction logs should be on a separate
m/c from the notes database within your TSM server?
First of all, i cant see the reason why you should want to separate the TX
logs from the database, as the TX logs are dependent on the backed up
Domino database in a
Moses,
First, the TSM Server handles all of the tape
management for you. The TSM Server knows on which
tape any specific version of any backup exists.
If the client has queried the TSM Server, and says
that it cannot find a backup, then it most likely has
expired, which means it is out of the TSM
Thanks very much this reply has been very helpful.

Milton,
Thanks for the info. I briefly looked at Sepaton, but I had no idea they
were that inexpensive. I will probably give them a second look.

Hi,
Have just had to delete both the paths and drives which we use for
TSM backups on an IBM3584 tape library because of issues regarding drives
not being defined to use LTO2 tapes. Once successfully deleted the drives
and paths were re-defined in the correct order. However upon redeining t

Tab,
We've asked the same thing and came to the following points:
1) The $/TB is about as cheap as you can get.
2) With a VTL you can do LAN free backups.
3) To create an equiv Primary StgPool using sequential-access FILE
volumes you would have to create a 200TB file system. Even using JFS2,

I have been asked to see is its possible to restore all DOMINO databases

We just completed disaster recovery testing ourselves...
We were able to restore all the databases to our "disaster recovery

I am not sure of the 3584 tape system, but on our 3494 tape system,

time that drive is accessed by the library, it changes state again.

Bill,
Yes. This is possible. It is described in the
Data Protection for Domino User's Guide.
There is an Appendix called "Advanced restore procedures"
that discusses the details.

Try defining the drives first then the paths. It's in reverse order from
when you delete them.
Sequence order of events is very important with drive pathing in TSM 5.
Also you can try halting and then restarting the tsm server instance.
Very last if AIX you can do an "lsdev -Cc tape" to make sure t

Matt,
Before doing the restore, on the Exchange server to which you
will perform the restore to, you need to create the

on the original server (the upper/lower casing of the

You may also need to mark the data

Thanks VERY much for that info. That was exactly what I was looking for.
