Hi,
We are using TSM backup client 5.1.6 and TSM server for windows
5.1 and am interested to find out if it is possible for the server to
contact the clients when the server is situated behind a fire wall. any
help would be gratefully received.

Hi Moses,
Unfortunately TSM 5.1 does not allow you to execute server initiated
schedules, you have to upgrade to 5.2. Then you only need to add option
"sessioninitiation serveronly" in your client dsm.sys and to update your
client definition on TSM server (new fields in 5.2) to tell him he

Hi,
is the removable storage service on the w2k3 box disabled? If not do so.
Have you configured the library to use the tsmscsi.sys driver? Not the Microsoft
driver.
Have you installed the IBM tape driver for w2k3 using the "for Tivoli Storage
Manager" option.

I've a simple question for the group, we are using a mixture of IBM and

I think this is an excellent idea, but I'd much rather see "result set

Dear Ted
10x for the Rapid answer :-)
I manage to solve the problem, after I noticed the the scsi id for the drive
was not in the correct order e.g 0,0 0,1 0,2 0,3 it was 0,3 0,1 0,0 0,2
Thus the TSM Server could not open the Device.

It would certainly help if you could provide some more detail specific to

Consequently, I mark tapes having

The problem with perennially new technologies is that we oft

One correction: usage of "sessioninitiation serveronly" does not disable
command line, GUI or Web GUI. Those interfaces, when run, will still
attempt to contact the server. They will of course fail if the server is
behind a firewall.
In other words, "sessioninitiation" should only affect the b/a sc
