Helo!
Does someone know why I receive the message 8778w? All tapes change of
scartch mode to private mode. I Think that those tapes will not be to
available fot realize backup.
Thanks at all replys!

Luis,
the TSM Messages Manual has this description for ANR8778W:

re-access.
Explanation: The scratch volume encountered an error during mount

Does anybody know a quick and complete guide for DRM? Do you recommend
a book or some tips?
Best Regards,
Burak Demircan
I am reminded of what one of my old managers used to say:
"Good, Fast, Cheap: pick any two."
Anyway, the only TSM DRM guide I've found is the one in the back of the TSM
Admin Guide. This is rather lacking in Bare Metal Restore info for the
various platforms, but that's not so hard to find.
Anybody can help me with this :
I 'm using an IBM Ultrium tape library with 7 tapes.
A few weeks ago my first set of tapes were full so I got another set of 7
and checked them in TSM. All worked fine.
Now the second set is full and I need to reuse the first set for backups.
TSM will not allow me t

Angelos,
I guess you haven't read much about TSM and in the past you worked with
other backup solutions. Your question is not uncommon, why should one
think TSM has a different internal behaviour and tape management than
other products...
I can't give you a complete introdution in a few lines, I'

"delete vol xx discarddata=yes"
This will delete references to the data on a tape and return the tape to
scratch. I hope you are running full backups on a regular basis if you are
going to delete backups after less than 2 weeks. P.S. Check your versions
and retention settings too.

Hello Ya'all
I am trying to do a bare metal restore of an IRIX 6.5 tsm 4.2 client.
I have booted off the irix install cd, and tftp'd over the dsmc module, but
when I run dsmc I get:
2109:dsmc: rld: Fatal Error: Cannot Successfully map soname 'libdm.so'
under any of the filenames
/usr/lib32/libd
I have a user who ants to box up a box running OPEN BSD. The closest I
could find in the archives was a solution for FREE BSD. The user checked
this out but found it used a cleint no longer available. Has anyone out
there found a way to do this??
Paul,
I remember this same topic being discussed several months ago... I thought
it was impossible... how can the library move the slider on the cartridge!?
We have a P3000 and have never seen this happen. I don't remember the
resolution from that last discussion (or if there was one)... but I'l
Hello,
I am writing some tsm 4.2 recovery instructions for irix 6.5.
I boot off the irix install cdrom, and then go to a shell, where I then tftp
"dsmc" and the license file over.
BUT when I try to run dsmc it says it cannot map soname to libdm.so to any
filenames.
Does anyone have any inp
This identifies the shares that I mount. It does not identify the shares I
let others see, which is the problem here.

I was looking thru the BMR (Bare Metal Restore) documents on the
Kernal Groups web site. Since the BMR architecture (three of its
own servers) seems to be
external to the TSM server, is there something that makes TSM
4.2 a required level to use BMR?

Then you could use Reg.exe (from the NT Resource Kit) or 'regedit /e' at the command
line to export 'HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Shares' to a flat
file for documentation purposes.

BMR is a separate 3rd party product that The Kernel Group developed in
conjunction with IBM/Tivoli. BMR is a great product that provides the
ability to perform bare-metal restores of systems. I do not think there
is a required level of TSM 4.2 that would need to be applied in order to
run BMR.
SEEN THIS BEFORE.
You have to install the SGI DMI X-OPEN API and reboot. All the problems
will go away then. There is a direct hit on this problem on the SGI website
if you use the keyword "libdm" if I remember correctly.
Stay in touch, we have some SGI systems with over 1TB on them.

Sorry, I am taking my words back. Have a look again at the times reported
Data transfer time: 8 261.61 sec
Elapsed processing time: 01:25:00
This 8261 seconds is definitely much more than 1h25m (5100s) and one of the
times is erroneous. Divided by wrong value you're getting one of the rates
wrong.
Jerry,
this would turn TSM into "always full backup" destroying nearly all of its
benefits (and will not resolve the problem). I would recommend to both you
and Angelos to read the nice redbook "Tivoli Storage Management Concepts"
(SG24-4877-02 from http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/). This would allow
I do not know will this work in ADSM 3.1 (but it ought to). At least it
works in my TSM 4.1.
