I'd say yes, hypervisors (with the right storage/procedures) mitigates the need
for this. We don't back up system state for anything. But, using VMware
snapshots for temporary backups, and array based snapshots for longer restores,
minimizes the need that we could have for system restores.

Has anybody migrated a IBM 9133-55A V7.1.4.2 O/S to a IBM 750 (8408-E8D) using
sysback/6000 product and an IBM LTO4 tape which has the 55A O/S on it?? We are
using TSM V7.1.1.100.
We have a HDS G400 behind our new TSM servers FMD/Flash behind one container
for our primary production database (11.5 TB with 16 versions is fitting in 16.6TB) and the rest is in a giant nearline SAS pool.
The flash also serves to back the logs/db and the SAS serves as a DBB/logarch
location.

IBM has a fix for slow TSM DB Backups. It is called loopback TCP address
problem referenced to PMR #54435,379,000. TSM DB backups will run as fast as
before you performed the AIX V6.1.7.x/V7.1.x.x O/S upgrade.

a stgpool that's empty or doesn't exist, or don't create a Arc copyg at
all... They'll get an out of stgspace msg or no copyg error but they
wont be asrchiving and you it's OS indepenant.

Do you have collation on? Check stgpool with f=d, if you don't have
Collocate Set to NO it will default to Group then if no Colo Group
exists it defaults to Node. So every Client Filespace gets a tape.

of the backup then maybe it makes sense to backup just the passive dags.

Its unfortunate that the Op Reporting has gone, prior to the Op Reporting there
use to be a package called Tivoli Data Wherehouse that would report on Tiovoli,
