Could anyone please tell me how to create an ISC ID that has the Users and
Groups link on the task tree. I used to be able to add an ISC user the
iscadmin group in TSM 5.5, but this group has gone. I added a new ID to the
TSM_AdminCenter, reportAdministrator, and reportViewer groups, but the

John, I think you meant to reply to Jerome, My message was just
pointing him to the Admin Guide.

Doug,
I set up a TSM environment at a remote office with a desktop PC
as the server and a single 8MM tape drive as the only tape, and about
200GB of disk space (not that I am recommending this as design goal,
mind you!). It backed up 6 servers each night, and I had a secretary in

Its possible but not recommended. Ive had a very small setup running for
a client with a 7 tape AIT-2 sony autoloader and a 500GB IDE disk.
Reclamation is done to a reclaimpool on disk, this procedure is
described somewhere in a redbook and/or in the manual. Basically TSM moves

Yes you can, see "Reclaiming Volumes in a Storage Pool with One Drive" in

Subject: TSM and single LTO2 drive
Hi,
I'd like to know if it's possible to use TSM in an environment with only
a single LTO2 tape drive and a few TB of hard disk space.
In particular I'd like to know how tape reclamation could be done, or if
it can be done at all.
Thanks in advance

Paul,
If moving from a dedup pool to a non-dedup pool, the objects are
re-expanded and stored in their entirety again.
Thanks,

We used the VTL to reduce the disk pool size. We use disk pools to prevent the
issue you are having. We wanted to make sure the TSM backend processing would
not be interfered with by a node that is not able to complete a backup during
the normal time. The only nodes that go straight to tape (
Hi Joerg,
You shouldn't have any problems using the 5.5.2.0 upgrade utilities to
upgrade a server at 5.5.2.1. When we put that statement in the book, we
were mostly worried about database schema changes that might be
implemented in 5.5.3.0 and beyond. There are no schema changes between

I have TSM server 5.4.3.0 and an IBM 3584 library with LTO2/3 drives.
Recently installed a Diligent VTL. I have migrated one of my smallest
Storage pools to VTL and find one problem. In this Domain, I have one
Windows client that takes about 23 hours to backup - 10's of millions of files.

Hi all,
I am already aware that TSM 6.1 dedup feature works when the data is stored in
a FILE devclass, and is "re-built" when the data goes to tape. But I have a
question: If the data is migrated from a FILE pool to a pool with a SERVER type
devclass, would dedup still be in effect?
And is
Hello ,
Can anybody share what are the relative advantages and disadvantages of file
level backup over NDMP and which is a good solution as a whole?

If the tapes will have different barcodes you may not need to partition. We
have a 3494 shared between TSM and BRMS. Each has its own barcode range and we
divided the tape drives through zoning. Just be sure each application checks
in the correct barcode range.

If tape is your chosen media then you could do a backup set of the data.
Backup sets are readable to anyone with a matching tape drive to your media and
are not encrypted and don't require access to the original TSM DB.

Ah, I must have missed the part when you needed to read it outside of TSM.
You probably just want to restore the files to a temporary location
then burn them to a DVD or tar them straight to a tape

We have 3584 libr shared between TSM and SyncSort BackupXpress. The
physical library was divided into two virtual libraries using the
WebGUI that 3584 provides.

Hi all,
We have a requirement to share our 3494 library between our existing
servers (AIX running TSM application) and new windows server (running
VERITAS application).
We would like to partition our library so that windows server can have
access to only two tape drive out of 8 drives and p

Hi Mike,
ISC/AC is the new Web GUI for TSM Server.
To understand why it doesn't work is a long story, I'll try to explain it very
short.
But the reason behind why you can't convert the TSM BA/API package is because
the control file in the RPM that says the package is a 32-bits version. Even

Syntax should be the same ;-)

What is ISC/AC?
For that particular system I need amd64, but I would be happy to
obtain both, if possible.
I'm even more interested to understand why it didn't work for me. What
version of Ubuntu did you use to convert the rpm's?

Hi Mike,
I got everything working access ISC/AC... But that is beacuse I probably
installed the wrong Java version.
What version do you want? amd64 or i386?
