[weewx-user] Re: GW2000 and power outages

2025-02-18 Thread 'michael.k...@gmx.at' via weewx-user
Yes, that is how it will work.
Your website will be updated if as the UPS will provider enough power for
the RPi, GW2000, and the network equipment needed to maintain the
communication between the RPi and the GW2000. That being said, take care
that the network communication still works without the gateway/router/dhcp
server. I am not an networking expert, but with a similar setup I had
issues with network devices that hadn't had a fixed IP-address, when the
gateway/router/dhcp server was without power.

17 hours also may be a challenge with common UPS. With the GW3000 and an
updated version of the gw1000 driver, it should be possible to shutdown
everything but the GW3000, and backfill missing data from it's sd card,
when weewx will start again, making it likely to surpass17h power outages.
But we're not there yet.

[weewx-user] GW2000 and power outages

2025-02-18 Thread Alan Salmon
Hi everyone,

I live in a regional area in Australia and rely on satellite for broadband.

Australia is currently experiencing some *interesting* weather conditions
with some places receiving up to 700mm of rain in 30 minutes (my worst was
38mm in 10 minutes - so far!). Needless to say, this plays havoc with the
satellite data link.

Blackouts are also a problem with the latest one extending to 17 hours.

I'm planning to install a UPS to cover my router, GW2000, Rpi4 (weewx) and
a Gigabit switch, but NOT the satellite modem.

I assume that the GW1000 driver for weewx will continue to collect data
from the GW2000 for as long as the UPS holds up, but obviously my website
wont get updated nor will data go to Ecowitt (or WU).

Can someone confirm I'm correct in this belief, please?

I'm planning on upgrading to the GW3000 when it become available in this
country (some time after April).

Cheers.
Alan

Re: [weewx-user] Ecowitt GW3000 user assistance

2025-02-18 Thread 'michael.k...@gmx.at' via weewx-user
In the mean time my GW3000 is installed already in my test environment, so
if there is anything I can help with, let me know. I've got no problem even
with a still-not-ready, potentially buggy, bleeding edge version of the
driver in my test environment.

I have renewed the API. Also changed the skin to standard. And retried
many times to import without succes (both with conf and with derive). I can
login normally to WU
My website and WU are updated with my current data. It is so strange i
could import 2021, but not the subsequent years of data from WU.
I am posting the terminal output, but it does not give much info as you can
see. And also the end of my many efforts to import the WU data.

I publish a *WeeWX* extension that produces GDD graphs for control of
codling moth on apples in addition to other insect crop pests.

See the list of extensions at:

*weewx-phenology* is listed under XTypes and may be downloaded from the
page at:

Including a GDD XType in existing templates can be a bit fraught
because the calculation is a cumulative one that requires iteration
from some point in the past. It's not cheap, but neither is
*weewx-phenology*'s image generation.

At this time of year, there isn't much to see, but you can view a
place-holder graphic at:

... which shows current conditions in my backyard.

The GDD report is at:

Suppose you untarred the *weewx-phenology* archive to
~/weewx-phenology, then the template that produces the GDD report may
be seen at
~/weewx-phenology/skins/Phenology/cumulative_growing_degree_days.html.tmpl.

Be forewarned: It's messy. Mostly it's *python* variable assignments
and shows the day date looping required.
