[vchkpw] POP3 Authentication problem
I have installed vpopmail with virtual domains active. When I try to connect with outlook express from another computer, vchkpw can't find my user account. The connection is rejected. In /var/log/maillog, it says "vchkpw: vpopmail user not found [EMAIL PROTECTED]" How can I get vchkpw pointed to the proper virtual domain to find the user name and authenticate it. Tom Strike

Restoring sqwebmail to a new hard drive.
We are using tar to move our system to a larger hard drive. After the restore of the system, we are having the following problem. When a user tries to log into the web interface, he is reported to have either a bad password or login ID. The error that pops up on the system console is "Bad code in Cache". Is there something that needs to be done with the cache after a restore? Possibly a cach reset? Thanks MarkT.

Submit : Patch for logging in MySQL-DB
Hi there, i've modified vpopmail-4.9.8 do make vchkpw to log the last POP-Access for a user. It logs * Username * Domainname * Date+Time * IP-Address * Resolved IP (if available) Just compile vpopmail with mysql support , add --enable-logging=y and create the following table in the vpopmail-database : CREATE TABLE lastauth ( user varchar(200) NOT NULL, domain varchar(255) NOT NULL, timestamp datetime DEFAULT '-00-00 00:00:00' NOT NULL, ip varchar(15) NOT NULL, host varchar(255) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (user, domain), KEY user (user, domain) ); It's maybe not the best way to do it, but it realy works great here at a local ISP (about 600 Domains). Just replace the vchkpw.c from the vpopmail-source with the attached one. I hope that this patch *will* be added to the official vpopmail-distribution (e.g. with a configure option) Greets, Thomas vchkpw2.c
Submit : Patch for vmailmgr <-> vpopmail
Hi there, we are moving from vmailmgr to vpopmail. Until now our customers have pop-logins like : sgalaxy-john In vpopmail it would be : [EMAIL PROTECTED] To make vchkpw accept both logins, i've patched it :) Just copy the attached vchkpw3.c to vchkpw.c, add the contents of your "old" /var/qmail/control/virtualdomains to the vmailmgrdom-array, e.g. char *vmailmgrdom[] = { "mydomain.org:mydom", "space-galaxy.net:sgalaxy", '\0' }; Then configure vpopmail as you need. Open the Makefile and append -DVMAILMGR to CFLAGS : CFLAGS = -O2 -Wall -DVMAILMGR Now compile vpopmail and people can login with the old vmailmgr-style AND with the great vpopmail-style. Warning : The code works here, but there may be some bugs in it. Remmeber : I'm not realy a C-Guru ;-) If you don't add -DVMAILMGR to CFLAGS, vchkpw is compiled without vmailmgr support. I hope this will help someone out there and maybe the changes can be included in a new vpopmail-version ?! :-) Contact me for further questions. vchkpw3.c

This is so we can > use the mysql "replace" function. Yes, right. Here i run my tcpserver with "-h", because we need to check some users hosts (i know nslook'ing'up the IP is the same, but i'm to lacy ;)), so it's all right to remove it from the official version! Again, BIG thanks ! Thomas
Store mail AND SMTP send it
Hi there, i'm having a (big) problem here. One of our customers are building theier own mailserver. So i have to store incoming mail on our server as usual, and need to forward the mail to their server. At the moment, i've just appended a | foward $DEFAULT@IP to .qmail-default. This works, but their server can't deal with the ip (e.g. [EMAIL PROTECTED]). The server needs real domain-names in the mail-addresses. So i've been loking for some tools that i can insert in the .qmail-file to resend the mail via SMTP (not like forward does!). maildirsmtp from DJB seems to be what i need ... but this program can only deal with files in maildirs... I'm searching for a program that can be integrated within a .qmail-file like | the-programm IP-OF-SERVER to send the incoming mail to the given IP-Address Can someone help me ?? Thanx a lot, Thomas
[REQUEST] SMTP-Program
Hi folks, it would be nice if vpopmail would include some smtp-send program like "vpopsmtp" or so. Example : I need to send an incoming message directly via SMTP to another host, without using forward or something like that. At the moment i'm using the "maildirsmtp" script from the ucspi-package triggered by a cronjob every 5 minutes. It would be nice if i can tell vpopmail to send mail addressed to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" via a given SMTP server like maildirsmtp does. Thanks, Thomas

I don't have "qmail-send" logs in /var/log/qmail. qmail-smtp and qmail-pop3 have their logs in /var/log/qmail/qmail-xxx Then i have a nice /var/log/maillog. So to get qmailmrtg7 to work? If it doesn't exist, create it and the send the message to the owner. If it already exist, just bounce the message back (normal behavior). If the user isn't over quota anymore and the .overquota file exists, delete it. Thomas
auth problem
I inherited a Debian box with qmail and vpop and qmail admin installed. Everything was running fine at one point. It doesn't work now and gives this error back to the client: this user has no $HOME/Maildir I do know that the prior admin changed the users home directories to a different partition. It is using mysql for authentication. and those tables look ok. There is also the qmail admin package installed but the passwd for the postmaster is unknown. I'm considering re-compiling but wonder if perhaps there is an environment variable I could set. If so for what user? qmaild ? there is no source code for it on the machine. Any suggestions, hints, tips & flames appreciated. -- Tim Thomas www.remoteautomation.com

If he changed the home directories to a different partition, it's likely the home paths have changed..? This could affect /home/vpopmail (although I don't think you'd be getting as far as you are if that was the case). You say the MySQL tables look "OK", but did you verify the home directory listed in the pw_dir column goes to the current home directories? yes I believe that's ok mysql> select pw_name, pw_dir from vpopmail -> ; ++--+ | pw_name| pw_dir | ++--+ | postmaster | /web/vpopmail/domains/holycrosslutheranchurch.org/postmaster | | jodip | /web/vpopmail/domains/holycrosslutheranchurch.org/jodip | | pmel | /web/vpopmail/domains/holycrosslutheranchurch.org/pmel | | info | /web/vpopmail/domains/holycrosslutheranchurch.org/info | | dhunter| /web/vpopmail/domains/holycrosslutheranchurch.org/dhunter| | sermons| /web/vpopmail/domains/holycrosslutheranchurch.org/sermons| | peidsness | /web/vpopmail/domains/holycrosslutheranchurch.org/peidsness | | angies | /web/vpopmail/domains/holycrosslutheranchurch.org/angies | | pt | /web/vpopmail/domains/holycrosslutheranchurch.org/pt | | postmaster | /web/vpopmail/domains/mountaintop.org/postmaster | | troy | /web/vpopmail/domains/mountaintop.org/troy | | postmaster | /web/vpopmail/domains/garysgunshop.com/postmaster | | garys | /web/vpopmail/domains/garysgunshop.com/garys | | shannons | /web/vpopmail/domains/holycrosslutheranchurch.org/shannons axistance and perms: lyback:/web/remoteautomation/www/software# ll /web/vpopmail/domains/ total 12 drwx--4 vpopmail vpopmail 4096 Apr 3 09:15 garysgunshop.com/ lrwxrwxrwx1 root root 49 Mar 27 21:41 holycrossluthchurch.com -> /web/vpopmail/domains/holycrosslutheranchurch.org/ lrwxrwxrwx1 root root 49 Mar 27 21:41 holycrossluthchurch.org -> /web/vpopmail/domains/holycrosslutheranchurch.org/ drwx-- 12 vpopmail vpopmail 4096 Jun 24 17:20 holycrosslutheranchurch.org/ drwxr-xr-x5 vpopmail vpopmail 4096 May 14 21:03 mountaintop.org/ flyback:/web/remoteautomation/www/software# ls -lAFd drwxr-sr-x3 root www-data 4096 Apr 11 16:30 ./ flyback:/web/remoteautomation/www/software# ls -lAFd /web/vpopmail/domains/ drwx--5 vpopmail vpopmail 4096 May 14 21:02 /web/vpopmail/domains// any other thoughts ?
[vchkpw] Upgraded from old version to newest - Some domains have problems
There are over 100 domains on the server. Over half seem to be working just fine. A handful are not. For example, there's an email acct... [EMAIL PROTECTED] whenever i try to send mail to it Sorry, no mailbox here by that name but, its there in domains/domain2 as a pop3 account i did a vdeluser and vadduser same thing it shows up in qmailadmin but it cant receive mail nor can it login (pop3, sqwebmail, etc) I fixed this problem by doing a vdeldomain then vadddomain and recreating the accounts. However, this cannot be the best (only?) way to get these accounts to work again. I dont want to manually recreate 25 domains each with 100 users... then tell each user that they have a new password. [vchkpw] Urgent - vchkpw/vpopmail authenticate even with wrong pw?
Hello - I recently installed vpopmail 5.3.20 from freebsd ports. I used Matt Simerson's FreeBSD Qmail Toaster scripts to install it (it uses ports). That installed without problem. I installed courier-imap and squirrelmail as well as sqwebmail. I noticed today that I can log into any of the accounts via sqwebmail with any password. I can literally put in "xxx" for the password on my e-mail account and it will let me in. I tried it on squirrelmail with the same problem. So, then I tried simply logging into the POP3 account with "xyz" as the password. It, too, let me in with full access. This is bad - obviously. Anyone care to shed some light on what I need to do to get this fixed ASAP. I upgraded from 4.9.x and use mysql4 for authentication. Any and all help is appreciated. __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Re: [vchkpw] Urgent - vchkpw/vpopmail authenticate even with wrong pw?
Learn passwords was enabled. However, it should learn only the FIRST password entered for each account not multiple passwords for each account. Right? It would seem logical that with learn-passwords, the first time i put in the password for [EMAIL PROTECTED], it "learns" that password. If I try to log into [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a different password, I should be rejected, as it "learned" the first password. --- Michael Bowe <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I could be barking up the wrong tree here but... > > Perhaps did you configure vpopmail to "learn > passwords" ? > > It rings a bell for me that if you upgrade from an > v4.x vpopmail, and you > enable clear passwords in your v5.2 vpopmail, you > loose all your existing > passwords and the general way to recover from this > is to enable vpopmail's > "learn passwords" functionality > > This could explain why "any password works". [vchkpw] vadddomain failure
Hi, I'm having trouble with the vadddomain command. It gives me this error, when i try to add a domain # vadddomain testdomain.com 123test Failure while attempting to remove_line() the locals file Error. Failed to add domain to assign file Error: Could not update file I'm using the debian packages from http://linux.myspinach.org/debian , which of course means that I'm not really sure, where the problem is. I have installed the following versions vpopmail-bin 5.3.26-1 libvpopmail-dev 5.3.26-1 libvpopmail1 5.3.26-1 libvpopmail-freecdb 5.3.26-1 qmail 1.03-27 I hope that either someone else found a solutions to this problem or that this is simply a bug, that hopefully will be solved :) Regards, Thomas Ledet

[vchkpw] vpopmail variable
I'm not sure if this is a Maildrop or vpopmail issue. vpopmail 5.4-rc1 Maildrop 1.5.2 FreeBSD 4.4 My .qmail-default pipes all inbound mail to maildrop using the following command: | /usr/local/bin/maildrop .qmail-default-mailfilter The mailfilter file contains the following variable (among others): VHOME=`/usr/local/vpopmail/bin/vuserinfo -d [EMAIL PROTECTED] This doesn't seem to be working as I maildrop errors out because it can't find the home directory. What I haven't been able to find about vpopmail is whether or not it sets certain variable that can be used in .qmail or .mailfilter scripts. Are these variable available and, if so, where can I find a list of them?
Re: [vchkpw] vpopmail variable
Brian Lanier wrote: I ran into this problem before and always figured it was a problem on the handoff between qmail and maildrop. If I remember correctly the $EXT and $HOST are qmail environment variables, someone can correct me if I am wrong. In my case the $EXT variable was not being set. We initially had a clumsy awk command to manually set the line. Once we upgraded Maildrop the problem went away. To test try spitting the values to a log file with something like the following in your maildrop filter: logfile "/usr/local/vpopmail/maildroplog" log "EXT is $EXT" log "HOST is $HOST" log "VHOME is $VHOME" Of course put the VHOME log line after the line where you set it... I am currently using maildrop 1.6.3. As far as I know in this configuration, vpopmail doesn't have much to do with these variables other than trying to use them in the VHOME line. Hope this helps in some way. I never could find any info on this and just worked around until one day it started working after an upgrade. Thanks, this worked out great. All of the variable are being defined correctly.

[vchkpw] smtp-auth woes
All: Many seem to achieve smtp-auth, but I haven't yet, and the natives are getting restless. Vpopmail itself has been running successfully for multiple domains for several months. I've tried serveral configurations with vpopmail, always followed by rebuilding "ucspi-tcp-0.88" because of a library file reference I read. Some configs used the CDB file in its "etc" directory, and others tried mysql's "lastauth" and "relay" tables. The CDB file seems to never be updated, and the "lastauth" table had either "0.0.0.0" or just a blank "" in the "remote_ip" column, but the "timestamp" column was being updated. The "relay" table never appeared to have any records. I have used pop3 through xinetd and courier-imap with the above results being consistant. Browsing the code, the web, and these archives lead me to think that the "TCPREMOTEIP" enviroment variable isn't being filled, but I couldn't find any specific answers. Latest vpopmail config: ./configure --enable-mysql=y --enable-mysql-logging=y --enable-valias=y --enable-roaming-users=y \ --enable-relay-clear-minutes=120 --enable-mysql-limits=y --enable-many-domains=n --enable-logging=e \ --enable-tcpserver-file=/home/vpopmail/etc/tcp.smtp --enable-tcprules-prog=/usr/local/bin/tcprules Pointers, ideas, and / or solid clues would be greatly appreciated. If no one else doe it, I will eventually get to trying this with CGI, but don't hold your breath. QmailAdmin 1.3 will be released before I spend any time on it. If you do try it and have problems I will help you, but unless someone else is actively involved it will remain a very low on my priority list. What about SUID on the script file? That might work too. Rick You just need the proper script header and the proper entries in /etc/sudoers. I think the following header would work: #!/usr/bin/sudo -u vpopmailuser /usr/bin/php but then again, running another server is probably more secure than this method. [vchkpw] Problems authentication users with Courier IMAP
Hello List,I'm new to mail servers, please bear with me if this is trivial. I've installed qmail, qmailadmin and vpopmail. That seemed to work fine. The mail server was running, and I could foreward emails, like I wanted. Though I wanted to get a webmail running, so I installed Courier IMAP, in order to use squirrelmail. [vchkpw] Trouble on FreeBSD
Hi, I have some trouble running chkuser on one of our FreeBSD 5-boxes. Further setup info: vpopmail-devel, smtp_auth & tls-patches. It compiles against a vanilla qmail 1.03 quite fine after manually patching the qmail sources. After replacing qmail-smtpd I can send Mails through qmail-smtpd to domains listed in rcpthosts/morercpthosts and the patch works, invalid recipients are not accepted. TLS und the AUTH-patches work, too, but: While trying to send a eMail to an external address I get a "unable to read controls" - error. Of course I had a look at the permissions of qmail/controls, I think there should be no problem with it. Is it possible that the relaying-information is lost somehow? Any hints? Thanks anyway :) - Original Message - From: "Peter Palmreuther" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, December 19, 2002 4:02 PM Subject: Re: [vchkpw] make error > Hi Thomas, > > On Thu, 19 Dec 2002 15:31:31 +0100 > "Thomas Stian Bergheim" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lz > [...] > > libz resides in /usr/lib/ What's wrong ? > > I don't know. > > Does a 'ldconfig -p' show 'libz.so' too? > If not you maybe might want to update your ld-cache by running > "ldconfig"??? > -- > Peter > >
[vchkpw] vmysql.c / RBLSMTPD
It looks like vmysql.c doesn't allow authenticated users to be excluded from rblsmtpd. This is a problem since we use DUL blacklists and valid users are not able to send out mail. This line (vmysql.c line 761 in version 5.3.16): snprintf(SqlBufRead, SQL_BUF_SIZE, "%s:allow,RELAYCLIENT=\"\"\n",row[0]); should probably look like: snprintf(SqlBufRead, SQL_BUF_SIZE, "%s:allow,RELAYCLIENT=\"\",RBLSMTPD=\"\"\n", row[0]); Correct? I'm not sure if this is the best way to approach, but perhaps someone can offer a suggestion. Is INSERTing the IP into the vpopmail.relay table the best way to handle authenticated users/relaying? Is there a better method - such as requiring SMTP authentication? Any feedback would be appreciated. [vchkpw] Qmail Control Files
I have a few questions related to vpopmail and Qmail control files due to a few issues that popped up when we changed the hostname of a mail server. The server itself was orbit.bluegravity.com, with mail.bluegravity.com being added via "vadddomain". Everything was working quite well. The control/ files in use were as follows: control/defaultdomain = bluegravity.com control/locals = control/me = mail.bluegravity.com control/plusdomain = My question is this - if we want to change the actual server hostname to mail.bluegravity.com and eliminate "orbit" altogether since it's basically never used, what needs to be changed in the control files? When control/plusdomain had "bluegravity.com" in the contents, we received the following error: failure: Sorry,_no_mailbox_here_by_that_name._vpopmail_(#5.1.1)/ Should this file remain empty? What should I be aware of when turning orbit.bluegravity.com (with a mail.bluegravity.com domain alias) directly into mail.bluegravity.com? Any feedback would be appreciated. Re[2]: [vchkpw] Chkuser patch and bouncer messages?
Hello, Do you think that I can set the "doublebounceto" to use "MAILER-DAEMON" also? I've got all my this messages to my postmaster account? Will it be possible, and will it only affect bounced bouncer messages? -- Best regards, Thomasmailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
