[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 955786] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in BlockHandler() - Regression since 290.10

2012-04-09 Thread Roger
Right, I uninstalled the 290.10 kernel module and installed nvidia-
current 295.33 from the repos. Seems to be an improvement but after only
a minute or so I got

Apr 9 09:17:18 blenheim gnome-session[2417]: Gdk-WARNING: gnome-
session: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X
server :0.#012

when scrolling in a LibreOffice document. It's also happend when using
VirtualBox (both 4.1.10 and 4.1.12). But Nvidia's 290.10 version
continues to work flawlessly. I'll attach a copy of the nvidia-bug-
report as well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 977058] [NEW] trackpad doesn't work after system resume

2012-04-09 Thread Justin Higgins
Public bug reported:

It looks like the left mouse button is stuck down. The mouse pointer
won't move unless I hold the (integrated) mouse button down and drag it
around.

This is on a Macbook Air 3,2 (2010 vintage).

The trackpad works beautifully before resume.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 977010] [NEW] Screen goes blank after boot since update 3.2.0-22 from 3.2.0-21

2012-04-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Since the update from 3.2.0-21 version I allways get a blank screen,
even on the TTY's.

The Recovery mode will boot OK and gives some additional informatin on
the Xorg.o.log file, that's what I found so far.

Regular installation and updated from first beta version of Precise from
Oneiric on a EeePC 1000H to 3.2.0-22.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 976412] [NEW] Graphical display only shows top half of screen

2012-04-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Display goes black right after boot. If ESC is pressed repeatedly it will show
the UBUNTU loading screen as per normal. Once it goes graphical though only the
top half of the screen is visible. See this thread for more information.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1953490

This happens in all versions including daily build up through
Apr/07/2012.

This applies to new, fresh installation to hard disk from USB or from
Liveboot, although Liveboot (Try Ubuntu option) does show fullscreen
properly.

I used the ubuntu-bug -w command to report this bug by clicking on the top half
of the desktop. The bottom half is of course not accessible.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770283] Re: [fglrx]title bar does not update on non-maximized windows

2012-04-09 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Ok, I woke up, tested my changes a bit and it doesn't seem to hang up anymore.
So I pushed the new version to my PPA, it should be published by now. Same as
before:
ppa:sil2100/ppa (precise only for now).
Please test it if it has any additional side-effects. Thanks!

I talked with Sam Spilsbury and we might probably include this fix as a
distro patch for compiz-core. We're in a freeze now, so no way to
include it in precise - but we'll push it in the nearest SRU (probably
next week?). But first we need to test and review the fix more closely.
We don't want to cause any regressions and performance issues, right?
Although it doesn't seem like it has any serious implications.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770283] Re: [fglrx]title bar does not update on non-maximized windows

2012-04-09 Thread David Raid
If not the final release of Precise.., could it not be added to the
normal flow of updates for Precise once determined that it doesn't cause
any serious regressions or performance issues and is deemed ready?

I appreciate that we don't want to risk any problems with the LTS, but..
the problem this aims to fix is a rather big one in regards to the
'Pixel perfect' desktop and ATI users migrating from the last LTS,
Lucid, will not be expecting it.

I feel this workaround needs to be there by default, even if it's not
turned on in CCSM by default.

Thanks your speedy pushes to the PPA, I can't express how much I
appreciate your work in this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 976290] [NEW] Disable Touchpad (Fn-F8) forces logout

2012-04-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I just updated my 12.04 system and after the udpate, the Disable
Touchpad function combination ( Fn + F8 ) causes my session to logout
instead of disabling the touchpad. It seems to work once every few
attempts, but when it does, it doesn't seem to persist across
Suspend/Resume.

This is a regression as this was working fine previously ( at least the
main description of disabling the touchpad ).

My system is a Lenovo Thinkpad 410s with Intel graphics, it has an SSD
for it's main drive. It has the following CPU:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 520 @ 2.40GHz

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 969609] Re: [6480g A4 APU] Display Shuts off when running any fullscreen game in wine.

2012-04-09 Thread Filip
Im running into a very similar issue. Im trying to use Wine to play any
of these games:

- Left 4 Dead 2 (this game I somehow managed to run once)
- Mass effect 2
- Mass effect 3
- Fifa 12

All of these games start and "run" with the open source drivers. The
performance of the open source drivers is not good enough. After installing the
ATI propriety drivers (I tried the range 11.12 - 12.3) the games crash on start
up and have to be killed. Some games manage to run the intro e.g.
- Left 4 Dead 2 shows the menu and crashes during loading
- Mass effect 2/3 crashes on start up
- Fifa 12 crashes after the language selection dialog.

It seems something goes wrong with the ati driver and wine. Could you
please tell me which logs should be appeneded?

Note: Im running this on 12.4 Kubuntu.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 954600] Re: Touchpad configuration reset after suspend/resume on MacBookAir4, 2

2012-04-09 Thread Reuben Thomas
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 968845 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/968845

I've tried the workaround given at bug #968845; indeed, I've had the
usbhid and bcm5974 modules listed in SUSPEND_MODULES ever since I first
installed Ubuntu. I can therefore say that that workaround does not fix
the bug I've reported. However, perhaps the workaround actually CAUSES
the bug I'm experiencing, because when I suspend and resume my machine,
the touchpad is reset? Is there some way I can get my configuration
reapplied when the bcm5974 module is reloaded on resume?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 796864] Re: Can't use AltGr on a French MacBook

2012-04-09 Thread ikke
This bug hit's me too with my old powerbook G4 17" with finnish
keyboard. The keyboard is the weird one that mac's ship with. Even I
used xmodmap to make the extra enter key on the right side of the space
and right apple key to be altgr, I only manage get some symbols correct.
Now I do get @ sign using altgr (enter) and number 2. But still most
special characters don't work.

I have selected Finnish (Machintosh) as my keyboard layout, and I use up
to date to be 12.04 ppc ubuntu.

David- To answer your question about the update being added to the
normal flow of updates in Precise, thats what they are trying to do. SRU
stands for "stable release update" and they are hoping to push it in
there.

Fantastic! If the nearest SRU is next week, and it gets pushed
successfully, then is there a chance it might be in Precise on release
day? I'm confused by how the feature freeze effects the addition. Do
SRUs only get put into effect after the release?

Thanks for the clarifications, Neil. :]

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 796864] Re: Can't use AltGr on a French MacBook

2012-04-09 Thread ikke
correction to the previous comment, I seem to get symbols correct
afteral, the confusing factor was that the "<>" key between left shift
and space had changed place with the left-top key "§°". Knowing that I
get all symbols I need. Dead keys just don't work as expected, e.g. the
tilde comes right after clicking the "altgr" and "¨" -keys, where as
space should be still pressed until it should appear.

Should I make a separate bug report about Finnish keyboard?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 865885] Re: Implement proper clipboard in wayland

2012-04-09 Thread papukaija
** Summary changed:

- implement proper clipboard in wayland
+ Implement proper clipboard in wayland

** Description changed:

Well the bug to implement a proper clipboard in xorg has just been set
  to invalid:

  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25220

So since wayland is replacing xorg, might as well implement a proper
clipboard. Please do not follow the path xorg did to implement it.
Normal users do not want a selection based clipboard. It's confusing
for them and if some app wants it, then that app alone can implement it.
This way those who need it can get it and the rest of us can go about
without worrying that when I highlight something, I haven't just lost
  what was copied using ctrl+c.

  Here's a rant on it:

  http://elliotth.blogspot.com/2008/08/desktop-linux-suckage-
  clipboard.html

And here's a very simple implementation:

  1. When copying text, copy it directly to the clipboard so that it is there
even if the application is closed.
  2. No more selection based copy. If an app wants it, it can implement it.
Putty does that on windows and so does mirc. But it shouldn't be forced upon
apps if they don't intend to use it.
  3. When copying something to the clipboard and it is not text, the app must
specify what kind of data it is so that if it can be used in another app if
that app says it is compatible with it. Otherwise when that happens, nothing
gets pasted if the app says it is not expecting that data type.
  4. Wayland will monitor when an application wants to exit that has data in
the clipboard that is above a certain size. If it is above a certain size,
when that application wants to exit, then it will ask if the user wants to
clear the clipboard before the application exits. This way the application
developer doesn't have to worry about implementing this, the OS takes care of
it.
  5. When copying data to the clipboard, it will report what application it
came from storing the full path. This way the above can be done.
  6. When copying data from the file system, it will be stored in a separate
clipboard. It will store the path to the file/directory it is set to copy and
not the actual copy as that could get very large.
- 7. Finally when copying data to the clipboard, it will indicate if the data
is to be copied or cut. If cut, then when it is pasted, it will delete the
original copy. If it is cut, it will simply paste it to the place you pasted
it to from the clipboard.
+ 7. Finally when copying data to the clipboard, it will indicate if the data
is to be copied or cut. If cut, then when it is pasted, it will delete the
original copy. If it is copied, it will simply paste it to the place you
pasted it to from the clipboard.

I think this is a good start. As I said, x and now xorg refused to do
this, so may as well put it in wayland.

If not, I'll see this being complained about 30 years down the line with
people asking why wasn't this implemented?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 959275] Re: libs unique to nvidia should be linked to /usr/lib

2012-04-09 Thread Marty Vona
This appears to affect both packages nvidia-current and nvidia-current-
updates. The whole setup of the nvidia-provided libraries is kind of
crazy. The postinst script uses update-alternatives to add an
ld.so.conf entry for the directory /usr/lib/nvidia-current[-updates].
However, and this is really poorly documented and confusing in the gcc
manpage (see http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-help/2001-12/msg00076.html), this
really only affects runtime resolution of libraries, not linktime
(except, it appears, to resolve *dependencies* of linked libraries, in
some cases...).

The postinst script also adds a bunch of slave links to that main
ld.so.conf alternative, some of which do install links from the system
locations (a fun mix of /usr/lib, /usr/lib32, and /usr/lib/i386-linux-
gnu) to specific libs in /usr/lib/nvidia-current[-updates]. It just
appears that set of slave links is incomplete (and what is up with the
three different system lib dirs?).

OP pointed out that some libs are nvidia specific, like libcuda.so, but
others are just provided by nvidia, like libGL.so. Why not just use the
alternatives system, as it was intended, to setup the correct link from
e.g. /usr/lib/libGL.so to /uusr/lib/nvidia-current/libGL.so? This
(currently unanswered) question http://askubuntu.com/questions/66109
/libgl-so-and-gl-h-not-available-from-standard-path suggests that
someone intended *not* to do that??

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2012-04-09 Thread george panta
Hello everyone,

I have made a patch that adds semi-mt support to v4 Alps touchpads.
Unfortunately it is quite buggy.

On my Vaio the Left Half of the Touchpad is quite erratic (synclient -m 10
shows f alternating constantly between 1 and 2 fingers with one finger touching
it).

The right Half of the Touchpad (i.e. if x>1000 in synclient -m x) works as
intended (two finger scrolling/taps and three fingers are recognized).

I have used the Documentation from Seth Forshee and essentially copied his
work.

I would really appreciate it if someone could finalize the patch.
I hope Seth could revisit this :)

P.S. I am not a programmer (I guess programmers will understand this) :)

settings like scrolling emulation for trackpoint and two-finger scrolling for

survived suspend-to-ram.

  # Now both trackpoint and touchpad doesn't work right after boot in half of

  # Even if they work after boot, they often stop working after approximately
an hour of uptime.
  # Even if they work after an hour of uptime, they loose scrolling function
and start detecting as mouse, not touchpad/trackpoint.
  # Additionally instead of random freezes trackpoint now goes crazy and starts
jumping on screen and clicking everywhere for two seconds.
  # Both trackpoint and touchpad don't survive suspend-to-ram.
  # Sometimes when trackpoint works after boot it behaves very strange: pushing
stick to the left causes pointer to move to the left but then immediately move

Pointing devices are almost completely unusable now!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 931488] Re: Touchpad and trackpoint glitches on Lenovo Thinkpad L520

2012-04-09 Thread kriomant
I have copied /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf to
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf
This solved detecting pointing devices on system start, but other problems are
still actual.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 977334] [NEW] external screen is filled with random color when primary screen is off during logon

2012-04-09 Thread Eugene San
Public bug reported:

If computer is started with closed lid, causing primary screen to be off during
logon,
external screen is filled with random color instead of X session image.
Enabling primary screen resolves the issue immediately, even after re-disabling
primary screen, external screen continue to work normally.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966631] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x7a000003

2012-04-09 Thread Rob Castle
I have the same problem on a Thinkpad X1, running precise.
Unless I'm mistaken, it appears to be related to
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47535
For me, setting INTEL_HIZ="0", as mentioned in the linked bug report, stops the
lockup in webGL.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745608]

2012-04-09 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
I can confirm that the issue is still occurring (and is reproducible
within 30 seconds using the original steps) in the Fedora 17 and Ubuntu
12.04 betas (which are using v2.18 and v2.17 of the intel driver). The
DebugWait option still resolves the problem too. None of the other
options (DebugFlushBatches or DebugFlushCaches true, Tiling false)
resolve the issue.

Using xorg-edgers ( https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa )
and sarvatt's intel-sna branch ( https://launchpad.net/~sarvatt/+archive
/intel-sna ) also resolves the issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 970438] Re: Mouse pointer stops responding without known trigger

2012-04-09 Thread Bob Bib
In my case, touchpad hangup occurs in Precise more often than in Oneiric, Natty
etc.
Interestingly, it unfreezes after suspend & resume.
---
ohad-basan, there has been a suspend/resume workaround for a quite long time:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AspireTimeline/Fixes#Suspend_to_RAM -- just
add a "i8042.reset=1" kernel option into /etc/default/grub

I know to try with 10 fingers and a nose instead of merely tapping and
moving quickly with 10 fingers trying to generate a spurious 11th touch.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 975356] Re: Logging from signal context is unsafe

2012-04-09 Thread Chase Douglas
This new version of the patch fixes issues in the first version and adds
many more logging paths that needed fixing.

The cause of a bug that was thought to be fixed by this patch has been
found. As such, the only known effect of this patch is to not crash
valgrind when attempting to log in a signal handler. Since this is a
large patch to be adding this late in the cycle, I am marking this bug
as won't fix for precise. We can add it in Q.

** Patch added: "Proposed fix for signal-unsafe logging v2"

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 977479] [NEW] Ubuntu icon in launcher looses background color when dragged

2012-04-09 Thread Willy Wooooooooooooo
Public bug reported:

The background of the Ubuntu icon in the launcher that activates the dash turns
gray when it is dragged out of the launcher.
I would expect the icon to keep the color it had in the launcher.
Other applications retain their background colors.

I'm using Precise Pangolin 12.4 LTS Beta.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 972852] Re: X server hangs when connecting or disconnecting external monitor and input devices

2012-04-09 Thread Kai Groner
I've been keeping a log of what order I connect and disconnect devices
to this laptop and whether it causes the server to hang.

Disconnecting the video, then the inputs, quickly seems to cause the
server to hang. When I pause before disconnecting the inputs or if I
disconnect the inputs first the X server did not hang.

I haven't done this many times, so it could still be a coincidence.
