[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 955786] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in BlockHandler() - Regression since 290.10
Right, I uninstalled the 290.10 kernel module and installed nvidia- current 295.33 from the repos. Seems to be an improvement but after only a minute or so I got Apr 9 09:17:18 blenheim gnome-session[2417]: Gdk-WARNING: gnome- session: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.#012 when scrolling in a LibreOffice document. It's also happend when using VirtualBox (both 4.1.10 and 4.1.12). But Nvidia's 290.10 version continues to work flawlessly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770283] Re: [fglrx]title bar does not update on non-maximized windows
Ok, I woke up, tested my changes a bit and it doesn't seem to hang up anymore. So I pushed the new version to my PPA, it should be published by now. Same as before: ppa:sil2100/ppa (precise only for now). Please test it if it has any additional side-effects. Thanks! I talked with Sam Spilsbury and we might probably include this fix as a distro patch for compiz-core. We're in a freeze now, so no way to include it in precise - but we'll push it in the nearest SRU (probably next week?). But first we need to test and review the fix more closely. We don't want to cause any regressions and performance issues, right? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770283] Re: [fglrx]title bar does not update on non-maximized windows
If not the final release of Precise.., could it not be added to the normal flow of updates for Precise once determined that it doesn't cause any serious regressions or performance issues and is deemed ready? I appreciate that we don't want to risk any problems with the LTS, but.. the problem this aims to fix is a rather big one in regards to the 'Pixel perfect' desktop and ATI users migrating from the last LTS, Lucid, will not be expecting it. I feel this workaround needs to be there by default, even if it's not turned on in CCSM by default. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 969609] Re: [6480g A4 APU] Display Shuts off when running any fullscreen game in wine.
Im running into a very similar issue. Im trying to use Wine to play any of these games: - Left 4 Dead 2 (this game I somehow managed to run once) - Mass effect 2 - Mass effect 3 - Fifa 12 All of these games start and "run" with the open source drivers. The performance of the open source drivers is not good enough. After installing the ATI propriety drivers (I tried the range 11.12 - 12.3) the games crash on start up and have to be killed. Some games manage to run the intro e.g. - Left 4 Dead 2 shows the menu and crashes during loading - Mass effect 2/3 crashes on start up - Fifa 12 crashes after the language selection dialog. It seems something goes wrong with the ati driver and wine. Could you please tell me which logs should be appeneded? *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 968845 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/968845 I've tried the workaround given at bug #968845; indeed, I've had the usbhid and bcm5974 modules listed in SUSPEND_MODULES ever since I first installed Ubuntu. I can therefore say that that workaround does not fix the bug I've reported. However, perhaps the workaround actually CAUSES the bug I'm experiencing, because when I suspend and resume my machine, the touchpad is reset? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 865885] Re: Implement proper clipboard in wayland
** Summary changed: - implement proper clipboard in wayland + Implement proper clipboard in wayland ** Description changed: Well the bug to implement a proper clipboard in xorg has just been set to invalid: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25220 So since wayland is replacing xorg, might as well implement a proper clipboard. Please do not follow the path xorg did to implement it. Normal users do not want a selection based clipboard. It's confusing for them and if some app wants it, then that app alone can implement it. This way those who need it can get it and the rest of us can go about without worrying that when I highlight something, I haven't just lost what was copied using ctrl+c. Here's a rant on it: http://elliotth.blogspot.com/2008/08/desktop-linux-suckage- clipboard.html And here's a very simple implementation: 1. When copying text, copy it directly to the clipboard so that it is there even if the application is closed. 2. No more selection based copy. If an app wants it, it can implement it. Putty does that on windows and so does mirc. But it shouldn't be forced upon apps if they don't intend to use it. 3. When copying something to the clipboard and it is not text, the app must specify what kind of data it is so that if it can be used in another app if that app says it is compatible with it. Otherwise when that happens, nothing gets pasted if the app says it is not expecting that data type. 4. Wayland will monitor when an application wants to exit that has data in the clipboard that is above a certain size. If it is above a certain size, when that application wants to exit, then it will ask if the user wants to clear the clipboard before the application exits. This way the application developer doesn't have to worry about implementing this, the OS takes care of it. 5. When copying data to the clipboard, it will report what application it came from storing the full path. This way the above can be done. 6. When copying data from the file system, it will be stored in a separate clipboard. It will store the path to the file/directory it is set to copy and not the actual copy as that could get very large. - 7. Finally when copying data to the clipboard, it will indicate if the data is to be copied or cut. If cut, then when it is pasted, it will delete the original copy. If it is cut, it will simply paste it to the place you pasted it to from the clipboard. + 7. Finally when copying data to the clipboard, it will indicate if the data is to be copied or cut. If cut, then when it is pasted, it will delete the original copy. If it is copied, it will simply paste it to the place you pasted it to from the clipboard. I think this is a good start. As I said, x and now xorg refused to do this, so may as well put it in wayland. If not, I'll see this being complained about 30 years down the line with people asking why wasn't this implemented? ** Tags removed: clipboard wayland ** Tags added: wishlist -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to wayland in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/865885 Title: Implement proper clipboard in wayland To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wayland/+bug/865885/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 959275] Re: libs unique to nvidia should be linked to /usr/lib
This appears to affect both packages nvidia-current and nvidia-current- updates. The whole setup of the nvidia-provided libraries is kind of crazy. The postinst script uses update-alternatives to add an ld.so.conf entry for the directory /usr/lib/nvidia-current[-updates]. However, and this is really poorly documented and confusing in the gcc manpage (see http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-help/2001-12/msg00076.html), this really only affects runtime resolution of libraries, not linktime (except, it appears, to resolve *dependencies* of linked libraries, in some cases...). The postinst script also adds a bunch of slave links to that main ld.so.conf alternative, some of which do install links from the system locations (a fun mix of /usr/lib, /usr/lib32, and /usr/lib/i386-linux- gnu) to specific libs in /usr/lib/nvidia-current[-updates]. It just appears that set of slave links is incomplete (and what is up with the three different system lib dirs?). OP pointed out that some libs are nvidia specific, like libcuda.so, but others are just provided by nvidia, like libGL.so. Why not just use the alternatives system, as it was intended, to setup the correct link from e.g. /usr/lib/libGL.so to /uusr/lib/nvidia-current/libGL.so? This (currently unanswered) question http://askubuntu.com/questions/66109 /libgl-so-and-gl-h-not-available-from-standard-path suggests that someone intended *not* to do that?? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/959275 Title: libs unique to nvidia should be linked to /usr/lib To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/959275/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work
Hello everyone, I have made a patch that adds semi-mt support to v4 Alps touchpads. Unfortunately it is quite buggy. On my Vaio the Left Half of the Touchpad is quite erratic (synclient -m 10 shows f alternating constantly between 1 and 2 fingers with one finger touching it). The right Half of the Touchpad (i.e. if x>1000 in synclient -m x) works as intended (two finger scrolling/taps and three fingers are recognized). I have used the Documentation from Seth Forshee and essentially copied his work. I would really appreciate it if someone could finalize the patch. I hope Seth could revisit this :) P.S. I am not a programmer (I guess programmers will understand this) :) ** Patch added: "ALPS v4 semi-mt support (buggy)" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/550625/+attachment/3034614/+files/alpsv4.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550625 Title: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/550625/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected oneiric running-unity ubuntu ** Description changed: When I first installed Oneiric, both touchpad and trackpoint worked fine (almost): both pointing devices were listed in "Pointing devices" application, settings like scrolling emulation for trackpoint and two-finger scrolling for touchpad worked too. The only problem was "lost synchronization" message in log which were accompanied by temporary (1-3 secs) freeze of pointer from time to time (approximately one time per 10 minutes). Both pointing devices successfully survived suspend-to-ram. Recent update has changed all. Here is excerpt from package list change of etckeeper: date:Fri Jan 20 00:33:16 2012 +0700 Package changes: -libgudev-1.0-0 1:173-0ubuntu4 +libgudev-1.0-0 1:173-0ubuntu4.1 -libudev0 173-0ubuntu4 +libudev0 173-0ubuntu4.1 -udev 173-0ubuntu4 +udev 173-0ubuntu4.1 -x11-common 1:7.6+7ubuntu7 +x11-common 1:7.6+7ubuntu7.1 -xorg 1:7.6+7ubuntu7 +xorg 1:7.6+7ubuntu7.1 -xserver-xorg 1:7.6+7ubuntu7 +xserver-xorg 1:7.6+7ubuntu7.1 -xserver-xorg-input-all 1:7.6+7ubuntu7 +xserver-xorg-input-all 1:7.6+7ubuntu7.1 -xserver-xorg-video-all 1:7.6+7ubuntu7 +xserver-xorg-video-all 1:7.6+7ubuntu7.1 # Now both trackpoint and touchpad doesn't work right after boot in half of cases. # Even if they work after boot, they often stop working after approximately an hour of uptime. # Even if they work after an hour of uptime, they loose scrolling function and start detecting as mouse, not touchpad/trackpoint. # Additionally instead of random freezes trackpoint now goes crazy and starts jumping on screen and clicking everywhere for two seconds. # Both trackpoint and touchpad don't survive suspend-to-ram. # Sometimes when trackpoint works after boot it behaves very strange: pushing stick to the left causes pointer to move to the left but then immediately move back half of runned way. I can confirm that the issue is still occurring (and is reproducible within 30 seconds using the original steps) in the Fedora 17 and Ubuntu 12.04 betas (which are using v2.18 and v2.17 of the intel driver). The DebugWait option still resolves the problem too. None of the other options (DebugFlushBatches or DebugFlushCaches true, Tiling false) resolve the issue. Using xorg-edgers ( https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa ) and sarvatt's intel-sna branch ( https://launchpad.net/~sarvatt/+archive /intel-sna ) also resolves the issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745608 Title: [915GM] font corruption on Intel GMA900 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/745608/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 975356] Re: Logging from signal context is unsafe
This new version of the patch fixes issues in the first version and adds many more logging paths that needed fixing. The cause of a bug that was thought to be fixed by this patch has been found. As such, the only known effect of this patch is to not crash valgrind when attempting to log in a signal handler.
