Public bug reported: lightdm launched fine. once in the desktop there were artifacts and disappearing windows and such. moving to vty2 and back didn't help. it seems it may be compiz related but not sure. i did an upgrade via apt and it replaced a handful of packages and then i rebooted. it seems to be fine now although it is still coming up with new error reports. there's also one with compiz crashing. everything is rendering fine now though and the desktop is functional. the system is a dell latitude e5500
