Sorry I cannot help you at this time because I am not known with all the commands etc . I am a newly on Ubuntu 8.10. I just followed some commands form the Ubuntu Intrepid page, which was toled to be very interesting and the bug report screen showed up. I filled it in and sent the report. Although I have had this problem on more occasions the last couple of weeks and I did not know what to do with it. I closed all the screen and went on. I have no recollection of it. I think i must be more carefull with what Iam installing because it is all so new. Think I did (been a few months since) but was unable to resolve the issue no matter what I tried.. (time also did not allow for further progress on the matter). Just discovered that guitar tab program "Songwrite" also crashes. The guitar tab program "tuxguitar" however launches fine. Maybe this can give a clue about the problem. Hi Jeff, sudo apt-get remove libcsound64-5.2 partly worked, Audacity, Ardour, Hydrogen and Rosegarden running again. Songwrite still crashes, so still something's wrong. As you said, deleteing a library doesn't seem to be a structural solution. Nevertheless, thanks for the solution. I can do my music things again on Ubuntu! This one can be closed, I found out what happened. When I installed autoconf and automake I got the above error message. After looking into it I found out that the program 'install-info' was not run from '/usr/sbin' but from '/usr/local/texlive/2008/bin/i386-linux/' which was in my PATH before '/usr/sbin.' After tweaking the PATH all works well. @floid Thanks for sharing your view on this! I guess I have to adapt my personal 'expectation' of the meaning of LTS. Having no idea how many people are (unknowingly) hit by this bug, I don't feel like making noise right now. I am too having problems with suspend/resume on the same system that has the ACPI errors. That system also (sometimes) has start-up problems: it does not get to the log-in screen, but remains dark, and needs a 'power button reset' or a remote log-in to reboot it (via ssh, which does work). Possibly unrelated though.
