[Bug 361607] Re: Tomboy Unhandled Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: Could not read add-in description

2009-05-06 Thread Runar Ingebrigtsen
I received this exact same error after the latest updates to my 8.10
installation on Asus Eee900. The updates installed according to the
dpkg.log has nothing to do with tomboy or mono, however. "rm -rf
~/.tomboy/addin-db00*" fixed this issue, and another one. I've had an
issue with tomboy closing when pushing the cross of the window
decoration. Now it's back to the default, which is minimize to tray.

[Bug 259028] Re: 0.7, 3G USB devices detected by usb-storage maybe need modeswitch

2008-09-18 Thread Runar Ingebrigtsen
I have Telenor Mobile Broadband in Norway. My USB adapter identify as
0af0:6971 Option.

I can't get network-manager to recognize this as a modem even if I am
able to load the usbserial module with it.

I am able to connect using HSOConnect, though. The problem with this
approach is that HSOConnect doesn't integrate with network-manager, so
not all GNOME programs accept the fact they're online. In Firefox I had
to remove the "work offline" tick from the file menu to be able to surf.

Why wouldn't networ-manager connect through my ttyUSBs?

[Bug 272254] [NEW] Option Icon 225 HSDPA mobile broadband modem not detected

2008-09-19 Thread Runar Ingebrigtsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

The modem depends on usb_modeswitch
(http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/), which I load using udev
rules (attached).

To connect with the modem, I have to use HSOconnect
(http://www.pharscape.org/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,68/page,viewtopic/t,474/),
as that's the only way I've found to work. wvdial doesn't detect the
modem, even if I load the usbserial module on it, and the same applies
to gnome-ppp.

Then network-manager is no better off. I can't see any way to tell
network-manager that I have this modem connected to my computer. It's
loaded with the hso module, but network-manager doesn't detect the
ttyUSB's either.

[Bug 114363] Re: flashplugin-nonfree causes browser crash on close

2009-01-31 Thread Runar Ingebrigtsen
I changed the description to Epiphany. I have a lot of trouble with
flashplugin-nonfree and Youtube.

** Description changed:

  Steps to reproduce this bug:

- 1. Start Firefox with flashplugin-nonfree and navigate to a site with
- flash videos that play audio (e.g. http://video.google.com)
+ 1. Start Epiphany browser with flashplugin-nonfree and navigate to
+ Youtube.com

- 2. Play a video for a few seconds then navigate away from the page using
- your browsers back button. On occasion Firefox will freeze and have to
- be terminated.
+ 2. Play videos by either
+ a) Play the whole video till end, then click one of the relevant videos in
the flash window
+ b) Play the video and click on the link to a different one during playback
+ c) Play a playlist of videos and use the "next" link from time to time
+
+ In other words, use Youtube like it's ment to be used. Sooner or later,
+ Epiphany crashes. Sometimes it will crash every time I restore the
+ Epiphany and try to navigate the same.

[Bug 315257] [NEW] Installer and color sight problems

2009-01-08 Thread Runar Ingebrigtsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I am red/green color blind. The choice of red and green tones in the
partition editor section of the installer is very hard to distinguish.
It would be better if there was either a black line between each
partition or if the red and green colors had a greater contrast when put
aside each other.

Color blindness doesn't necessarily mean I see only black and white, as
I see both red and green though I'm "red/green color blind". Still it
takes concentration to see the difference with the current choice of
colors.

As per statistics color blindness is pretty common. I think the design
should respect that.

Thanks.

the tasklist and the slice.

Travis, are you intentionally trying to avoid the problem or am I really
that bad a describing the situation? Of course a window can be visible
at two workspaces, that's not what I'm complaining about. The problem is
that this appears to be the DEFAULT ACTION for opening a new window in a
lot of situations. WHICH IS NOT WHAT METACITY DOES! Why can't you just
realize that the differing behaviour from what the user expects is a
bug?

[Bug 156296] Installer doesn't offer import of user even if home partition is left untouched

2007-10-23 Thread Runar Ingebrigtsen
Public bug reported:

I've got four partitions on this laptop: a hidden fat32 OEM-supplied
Windows XP recovery partition, a SWAP partition, a root partition and a
home partition.

I got two choices in the partition section of the installer; use the
whole disk or manual. I chose manual mode. (screenshot 1) I didn't want
the XP partition mounted or formatted, so I left it like it was - and
removed the suggested mounting path. I chose to format the root
partition. I wanted to keep the user, so I only chose to mount the home
partition on /home and left it without formatting it. (screenshot 2)
Then I clicked next.

The import user section told me there were no users to import.

The import case should be easy, since the home partition isn't
formatted. You could even let the user be imported directly, keeping the
password and the group membership for default groups by parsing a couple
of files in the old /etc before formatting the root partition.

At least, the user's data should be importable without any doubt.

[Bug 156055] Re: Windows shows on several workspaces

2007-10-24 Thread Runar Ingebrigtsen
I'll check out the gutsy-proposed libraries to see if it gets any
better.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't be the window manager's job to keep track
of where to put windows at the end of an close/open cycle. The question
must be _how_ the windows communicate where they want to be when they
reopen. This question might not have been investigated to closely, since
there's been few people who would replace metacity as the default window
manager before.

One reason this would be the window manager's job is that they treat
"workspaces" differently (they were "virtual desktops" before compiz).

In other words: how to communicate a window's position/size/state state
should be communicated in a standard way between apps and window
managers.

I'm curious who's job it would be if it isn't the window manager's? And
why?

[Bug 32089] Re: Non-i18n date formatting in Evolution time edit fields

2007-10-06 Thread Runar Ingebrigtsen
Screenshot of "new appointment" in Evolution.

Correct formatting in Norway would be: 06.10.2007 11:00

** Summary changed:

- Can't create appointment (select date problem) in Evolution
+ Non-i18n date formatting in Evolution time edit fields

** Description changed:

- Trying to create a meeting or an appointment in Evolution gives an error
- when saving.
+ [Was: Can't create appointment (select date problem) in Evolution]

- Validate error: Start date error.
+ There's a six year old bug in the evolution calendar component where the
+ date formatting of time edit fields isn't following international ISO
+ standards. The bug causes problems for non-US-users. I experienced
+ "invalid date value" - which prevented saving the appointment, when I
+ was using Dapper. The saving part was fixed in Dapper, the formatting
+ problem still persists.

- (Actually, in Norwegian: Valideringsfeil: Startdato er feil.)
-
- Then it says "Invalid date value" and whatever I try to change the date
- or close the window gives the same errors.
+ I'm now using Gutsy. The time fields of "new appointment" in Evolution
+ shows US-formatted dates, the interface is Norwegian bokmål.

[Bug 146222] Re: Gutsy: Import user didn't succeed - data loss occured

2007-10-12 Thread Runar Ingebrigtsen
Evan,

Choosing the whole disk gave no option of importing user. Likewise using
the manual partitioner to define formatting of the whole partition.

Then I chose resize, which never went on after successfully reduzing the
size of the existing partition. I closed the installer, then started it
again. There was a new option to use existing free space. I chose to use
free space and got the import user choice. I chose to import the old
user (nora) to a new user (per). I clicked "next" and created a new user
(nora), that also gave the name to the computer (nora-laptop).

I will leave a new comment and attachments with the results.
