[Bug 339563] Re: Unable to mount Canon cameras via USB (Jaunty)

2009-05-26 Thread Pm
The workaround given by captwiggum doesn't solve the problem for me (bug
#367434) -- I'm running on Kubuntu, which doesn't appear to have
anything like gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor .

[Bug 367434] [NEW] usb camera not mounted by kubuntu jaunty amd64

2009-04-26 Thread Pm
Public bug reported:

I'm running Kubuntu 9.04 amd64 (Jaunty). In previous versions of
Kubuntu, plugging in my usb camera would cause a device notification to
appear with an option to mount the camera. That no longer appears to
work on my system, meaning I can't easily pull images from my camera
onto my computer.

My camera is a Canon SX100IS.

Plugging in the camera gives me the following in /var/log/messages:

Apr 26 11:50:33 orange kernel: [10203.948015] usb 1-7: new high speed USB
device using ehci_hcd and address 15
   Apr 26 11:50:33 orange kernel: [10204.086346] usb 1-7: configuration #1
chosen from 1 choice

...but nothing occurs after that. 'lsusb' shows that the camera is
recognized:

   pmich...@orange:~$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 015: ID 04a9:315e Canon, Inc.

If I can provide any further information, please let me know.

Thanks!

[Bug 235186] Re: [Hardy] [Regression] 2.6.24-17-generic breaks suspend

2008-05-31 Thread PM
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 226279 ***

Confirming this bug on HP nx9420 / ATI Mobility X1600 / Intel Dual core
T7200.

Running Ubuntu 8.04 - 32bit.
Problem: Updates on 30. may broke Suspend to Ram. Probably due to kernel -17.
The laptop just hangs with a black screen on resume.
It has worked flawless earlier. Reverting to kernel -16 solves this issue.

Is there a fix? This is a major regression for laptops users.

[Bug 130423] installing xfonts-efont-unicode reports /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc does not exist

2007-08-04 Thread Pm
Public bug reported:

Running "apt-get install xfonts-efont-unicode" displays a warning:

I suspect this is different from #49361, in that I think #49361 reports
that the font files themselves were going to the wrong directory,
whereas in this version the font files do make it into
/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc/ as expected. I suspect the warning comes
from an incorrect path in the postinstall script associated with the
package.

Removing the package ("apt-get remove xfonts-efont-unicode") reports a
similar error at the beginning of the remove process.

Thanks,

Pm

[Bug 160367] Re: Audacity freezes when pressing record button

2007-11-06 Thread Pm
I had a similar issue on my Dell Dimension 9150 -- Audacity would freeze
when pressing the record button.

I somewhat tracked the problem down to the audio device and the fact
that the system was unable to read from /dev/dsp (on my system this
happened with any program -- not just Audacity). Overall it appears to
be related to a number of issues dealing with the Intel soundcard
drivers as they are compiled in the Gutsy default kernel.

Installing linux-backports-modules-generic on my system, followed by a
reboot, seems to have solved the problem. Recording in audacity now
works fine.

Hope this helps. I can provide more details about my system setup and
configuration if anyone is interested.

[Bug 160367] Re: Audacity freezes when pressing record button

2007-11-06 Thread Pm
Ooops! Looks like I spoke too soon -- it worked once after installing
linux-backports-modules-generic, but then failed.

So, I did some more investigating. First, I did a clean reinstall of
Kubuntu Gutsy (64-bit, in case that makes a difference). After more
experimentation I've determined that the only way I can get Audacity to
work is if the "Capture" input in kmix is enabled. If the Capture input
is disabled, then Audacity locks up whenever record is attempted.

On this system both playback and record are set to "OSS: /dev/dsp". I'm
also able to get it to record if I set the playback and record devices
to "ALSA: front" and the input device (by the microphone volume control)
to "Capture:0".

But ultimately on my system it seems to come down to the mute setting of
the "Capture" input.

Hope this helps,

[Bug 212076] [NEW] [Hardy] kdesu cannot find /usr/share/cups/enable_sharing

2008-04-04 Thread Pm
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cupsys

The cupsys package in Hardy appears to no longer have the
/usr/share/cups/enable_sharing script.

As a result, the "Enable Printer Sharing" option in the printers
configuration panel for KDE doesn't work.

Release: Ubuntu Hardy (8.04 beta)
Package version: 1.3.7-1ubuntu1

Expected: "Enable printer sharing" in kde printers control panel would
enable sharing printers via cups.

What happened: "Enable printer sharing" results in kdesu reporting
"Command not found". Running "ps" shows that kdesu is attempting to
execute "/usr/share/cups/enable_sharing 1".

[Bug 72628] Re: add "wizards" for commonly needed non-default packages

2007-01-18 Thread PM
I'm a newbie. I can't get movies (mpeg, avi, wmv) to play in Movie Player or
Noatun (apparently I don't have the appropriate decoder). I've searched for,
and installed, anything and everything that looks like it could be relevant. No
luck.
It would be really nice to have some simple way of installing "popular needed
packages" although it would be even nicer if Movie Player et al offered to
install relevant packages when first downloaded.
Anyway, I did come across easyubuntu and thought it just the thing.
Unfortunately, though easyubuntu claimed to install three packages for me, I
still can not play any video files. Following ubuntu instructions I get, at one
point, the error message
"svn: Berkeley DB error while opening 'nodes' table for filesystem
/home/svn/repos/easyubuntu/db: Cannot allocate memory
svn: bdb: Unable to allocate memory for transaction detail". That is,
easyubuntu is useless for me.

I know it is possible to play mpegs in Movie Player under Ubuntu, for I
have it working on another machine, set up some months ago. But I
remember it taking me many, many hours spread over many days to finally
get the right files downloaded. I have no interest in going through that
hassle again. There has got to be a better way.

[Bug 559523] [NEW] Mount of samba share allways failes IF password are saved

2010-04-09 Thread PM
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Mounting samba shares fails consistenly if, and only if, password are
saved. I have reported this bug previosly in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/530605. However, this has apparently
been fixed with libgnome-keyring as the root cause. On my test machine,
a completely updated system Lucid-beta2 (9th april 2010), this still
fails. Everything works fine in Ubuntu Karmic (updated) and from Window
clients.

Details:
Mounting a NAS (Synology) share in Nautilus works fine, but only as long as I
choose NOT to save passwords. I can mount multiple shares on this server
without problem. However, if I choose to remember the password (either until

"/usr/lib/gvfs/./gvfsd -r", which output "ERROR:gkr-

This bug may be in Seahorse. It is a nasty bug!

[Bug 559523] Re: Mount of samba share allways failes IF password are saved

2010-04-09 Thread PM
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus

Mounting samba shares fails consistenly if, and only if, password are
saved. I have reported this bug previosly in
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/530605. However, this has apparently
been fixed with libgnome-keyring as the root cause. On my test machine,
a completely updated system Lucid-beta2 (9th april 2010), this still
fails. Everything works fine in Ubuntu Karmic (updated) and from Window
  clients.

  Details:
- Mounting a NAS (Synology) share in Nautilus works fine, but only as long as
I choose NOT to save passwords. I can mount multiple shares on this server
without problem. However, if I choose to remember the password (either until
logout or permanently), every attempt to mount fails with this pop-up: "Could
not open location 'smb://x...@192.168.2.10//' DBus error
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by
message bus)". Spesificaly, every shares on the server fails. Rebooting does
not solve this, but if I delete the stored passwords in Seahorse everything
works. That is... until another attempt to save passwords.

Hmmm...I may have been to quick. Lucid still crashes sometimes with
""DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error". It's a completely updated
system as of 17th April 2010.

[Bug 530605] Re: gvfs-mount doesn't always work. gvfsd-smb starts using 100% cpu.

2010-04-05 Thread PM
This bug is not fixed yet: Still cannot reliable attach network shares.

I have had this ever since my first install of lucid (a few das before
beta-1 release). Still cannot reliable attach network shares. At least 8
of then ends in "DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message
did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)". I have not seen the
c...@100% last couple of days.

Clean test machine with updates as of 5.april applied. WLAN conncention
to network share. Network shares workes fine in Ubuntu 9.10.

2010-04-05 Thread PM
Oups...Sorry...Didn't notice the #554103 bug, mentioned by mikbini. This
seems to be the main problem for network shares connection issues. Not
saving the passwords in keyring makes network shares work all right.

[Bug 554103] Re: Repeated mount/unmount of network shares with nautilus fails

2010-04-05 Thread PM
Same here, with gvfsd-smb (have tried other protols).
It is identical to Mikeyphi - always when password is remembered network access
is broken. Waiting for hours or rebooting does not help. I have to delete
passwords from keyring.

[Bug 554103] Re: Repeated mount/unmount of network shares with nautilus fails

2010-04-06 Thread PM
This bug does NOT only happen after repeated mount/unmount cycles. If I
connect a network share (smb) with stored password, later mounting other
shares on the same NAS-box failes with the error message "Error: DBus
error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a
reply (timeout by message bus)".

Rebooting the system does not "solve" this, but deleting the stored

[Bug 560588] Re: Nautilus in Lucid Lynx Samba could not display network location dbus error gvfsd-smb-browse

2010-05-31 Thread PM
I can confirm that problem persist on my computer, like reported
earlier. This is an up-to-date Ubuntu Lucid.

On the other hand, I have another computer which has Lucid installed
from the same CD, and does not have this problem. They are both in the
same network, trying to connect to the same share.

I really hope that someone can make an effort to solve this problem. I
can help with debugging, but need guidance.

[Bug 586099] [NEW] Computer consistently gets unresponsive after switching from VTX to VT7 (driver RADEON, Chipset M10)

2010-05-26 Thread PM
Public bug reported:

I have an up to date (2010-27-05) ubuntu lucid. The computer gets
unresponsive every time I try to switch to VT1 and VT7. It just hangs;
no keyboard or mouseinput(I can see the mouse arrow). This only happens
when I am logged in to "desktop" with graphical Xorg, never from GDM. I
have not tried to remote login via SSH.

I have had this problem since I first installed Ubuntu Lucid at the
release day. It it also consistent on the Ubuntu Live CD.

My computer is a centrino based laptop equipped with ATI Mobile 9700 (M11).
Everything else seems to work ok, including the boot splash.

Looking at Xorg logfile I can't see anything wrong.

I don't know how to debug this further, but can provide further
information if some guides me.

[Bug 424249] Re: locks when trying to save as PDF

Just confirming that I also experienced the bug, and that the fix in #56
(resolution = 150) solved the problem for me. I tried (resolution =
200) earlier but that didn't work.

[Bug 438323] Re: [karmic] bluetooth module unrecognized on toshiba nb205

2009-10-30 Thread pm
This bug is on Toshiba Satellite U305 too.

On 9.04 I used omnibook module, downloaded and compiled from
omnibook.svn.sourceforge.net. On 9.10 it does not work.

This method was successful
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8136893&postcount=5 but I had to
modify laptop.h file to make my model work. I just need to add this
code:

{
.callback = dmi_matched,
.ident = "Toshiba Satellite U305",
.matches = {
DMI_MATCH(DMI_SYS_VENDOR, "TOSHIBA"),
DMI_MATCH(DMI_PRODUCT_NAME, "Satellite U305"),
},
.driver_data = (void*) TSM70
}

It works. Please add my model to next version this module. It's very
common. I think the problem exist in Satellite U300, U400.

Thanks.

[Bug 49427] installer crashed

2006-06-11 Thread PM
Public bug reported:

I've tried with little success to get the recent release of Ubuntu to
work. If I don't get a black screen I get the following screen

Installer Crashed
the installer cr shed (note no 'a")
File "/usr/bin/ubiquity", line 130, in ?
  install(sys.argv[1])
File "/usr/bin/ubiquity", line 54, in install
  wizard = ui.Wizard (distro)
.
.
.
there are another 9 or 10 lines of similar but since I have to copy by hand and
then reenter on another machine I've just shown the above. The final line of
feedback says

ZeroDivisionError: float division

The machine is a HP Pavillion, 1 GHz AMD Athlon, VIA KT133/KT133A
chipset, 256 Megs ram, and Windows was wiped.

[Bug 49427] Re: installer crashed

2006-06-11 Thread PM
Oh yes, I can't attach /var/log/syslog, /var/log/partman and
/var/log/installer/syslog, as mentioned in the error text since the
machine doesn't work. By not working I mean two things. The screen is
not rendered properly (especially the bottom of the screen) and after a
key or mouse button press it takes a minute or so for anything to
happen.

[Bug 1390534] [NEW] pdfposter producing blank pages

2014-11-07 Thread Pm
Public bug reported:

I'm running Kubuntu 14.04 (Trusty); when I try to split an 17x11 PDF
into 8.5x11 pages, the resulting PDFs are blank.

The command I'm using is:

   pdfposter -m 8.5x11in -p 17x11in pi-11t.pdf pi-11s.pdf

The input file (pi-11t.pdf) is produced from LibreOffice Draw as a tabloid-size
image (17x11 in). The output file (pi-11s.pdf) ends up with two blank 8.5x11in
pages as displayed in Acroread, Okular, and other PDF tools.

I'm attaching the pi-11t.pdf input file I used for this test. This
command used to work flawlessly in previous versions of Kubuntu, so I'm
not sure what might have changed.

Thanks,

Pm

[Bug 772924] [NEW] urxvt missing rxvt-256color terminfo (or dependency)

2011-04-28 Thread Pm
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rxvt-unicode

The urxvt application (provided by rxvt-unicode package) now defaults
the TERM environment variable to "rxvt-256color", but there is no rxvt-
256color terminfo file provided by default. There is an xterm-256color
terminfo entry, and manually setting TERM to this entry seems to work,
but the defaults are incorrect.

Steps to reproduce (from fresh install):

1. Install rxvt-unicode package
2. execute "urxvt"
3. In the new terminal window that opens, execute "echo $TERM". This displays
"rxvt-256color".
4. Attempt to display a man page (e.g., "man urxvt"). Terminal displays
"WARNING: terminal is not fully functional"

[Bug 1898529] [NEW] An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

2020-10-05 Thread Manaf PM
Public bug reported:

I was trying to upgrade ubuntu from 18.04 to 20. I am getting the below
error during upgrade

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

This was caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
This is most likely a transient problem,
please try again later.
If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the

[Bug 1898528] [NEW] An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

2020-10-05 Thread Manaf PM
Public bug reported:

I was trying to upgrade ubuntu from 18.04 to 20. I am getting the below
error during upgrade

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

This was caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
This is most likely a transient problem,
please try again later.
If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the
command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If
you want to investigate this yourself the log files in
'/var/log/dist-upgrade' will contain details about the upgrade.
Specifically, look at 'main.log' and 'apt.log'.

[Bug 575333] Re: On boot keeps trying to mount "UDEVD-WORK..../dev/null"

2011-01-17 Thread Pm-saeedi
Sometimes it happens and sometimes not.It happend at the first boot and is
repeated after every 4 or 5 reboots.
The solution that Asmante @ #75 suggested in not working for me either.I'm
using Ubuntu 10.10.
