[Bug 367434] [NEW] usb camera not mounted by kubuntu jaunty amd64
Public bug reported: I'm running Kubuntu 9.04 amd64 (Jaunty). In previous versions of Kubuntu, plugging in my usb camera would cause a device notification to appear with an option to mount the camera. That no longer appears to work on my system, meaning I can't easily pull images from my camera onto my computer. My camera is a Canon SX100IS. [Bug 160367] Re: Audacity freezes when pressing record button
I had a similar issue on my Dell Dimension 9150 -- Audacity would freeze when pressing the record button. I somewhat tracked the problem down to the audio device and the fact that the system was unable to read from /dev/dsp (on my system this happened with any program -- not just Audacity). Overall it appears to be related to a number of issues dealing with the Intel soundcard drivers as they are compiled in the Gutsy default kernel. Installing linux-backports-modules-generic on my system, followed by a reboot, seems to have solved the problem. Recording in audacity now works fine. Hope this helps. I can provide more details about my system setup and configuration if anyone is interested. [Bug 160367] Re: Audacity freezes when pressing record button
Ooops! Looks like I spoke too soon -- it worked once after installing linux-backports-modules-generic, but then failed. So, I did some more investigating. First, I did a clean reinstall of Kubuntu Gutsy (64-bit, in case that makes a difference). After more experimentation I've determined that the only way I can get Audacity to work is if the "Capture" input in kmix is enabled. If the Capture input is disabled, then Audacity locks up whenever record is attempted. On this system both playback and record are set to "OSS: /dev/dsp". I'm also able to get it to record if I set the playback and record devices to "ALSA: front" and the input device (by the microphone volume control) to "Capture:0". But ultimately on my system it seems to come down to the mute setting of the "Capture" input. [Bug 72628] Re: add "wizards" for commonly needed non-default packages
I'm a newbie. I can't get movies (mpeg, avi, wmv) to play in Movie Player or Noatun (apparently I don't have the appropriate decoder). I've searched for, and installed, anything and everything that looks like it could be relevant. No luck. It would be really nice to have some simple way of installing "popular needed packages" although it would be even nicer if Movie Player et al offered to install relevant packages when first downloaded. Anyway, I did come across easyubuntu and thought it just the thing. Unfortunately, though easyubuntu claimed to install three packages for me, I still can not play any video files. Following ubuntu instructions I get, at one point, the error message "svn: Berkeley DB error while opening 'nodes' table for filesystem /home/svn/repos/easyubuntu/db: Cannot allocate memory svn: bdb: Unable to allocate memory for transaction detail". That is, easyubuntu is useless for me. I know it is possible to play mpegs in Movie Player under Ubuntu, for I have it working on another machine, set up some months ago. But I remember it taking me many, many hours spread over many days to finally get the right files downloaded. I have no interest in going through that hassle again. [Bug 586099] [NEW] Computer consistently gets unresponsive after switching from VTX to VT7 (driver RADEON, Chipset M10)
Public bug reported: I have an up to date (2010-27-05) ubuntu lucid. The computer gets unresponsive every time I try to switch to VT1 and VT7. It just hangs; no keyboard or mouseinput(I can see the mouse arrow). This only happens when I am logged in to "desktop" with graphical Xorg, never from GDM. I have not tried to remote login via SSH. I have had this problem since I first installed Ubuntu Lucid at the release day. It it also consistent on the Ubuntu Live CD. My computer is a centrino based laptop equipped with ATI Mobile 9700 (M11). Everything else seems to work ok, including the boot splash. Looking at Xorg logfile I can't see anything wrong. I don't know how to debug this further, but can provide further information if some guides me. [Bug 1390534] [NEW] pdfposter producing blank pages
Public bug reported: I'm running Kubuntu 14.04 (Trusty); when I try to split an 17x11 PDF into 8.5x11 pages, the resulting PDFs are blank. The command I'm using is: pdfposter -m 8.5x11in -p 17x11in pi-11t.pdf pi-11s.pdf The input file (pi-11t.pdf) is produced from LibreOffice Draw as a tabloid-size image (17x11 in). The output file (pi-11s.pdf) ends up with two blank 8.5x11in pages as displayed in Acroread, Okular, and other PDF tools. I'm attaching the pi-11t.pdf input file I used for this test. This command used to work flawlessly in previous versions of Kubuntu, so I'm not sure what might have changed. [Bug 772924] [NEW] urxvt missing rxvt-256color terminfo (or dependency)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rxvt-unicode The urxvt application (provided by rxvt-unicode package) now defaults the TERM environment variable to "rxvt-256color", but there is no rxvt- 256color terminfo file provided by default. There is an xterm-256color terminfo entry, and manually setting TERM to this entry seems to work, but the defaults are incorrect. Steps to reproduce (from fresh install): 1. Install rxvt-unicode package 2. execute "urxvt" 3. In the new terminal window that opens, execute "echo $TERM". This displays "rxvt-256color". 4. Attempt to display a man page (e.g., "man urxvt").
