[Bug 560306] Re: [lucid] ATI hd5xxx cards wrongly doing kms?

2010-04-16 Thread Jiri Grönroos
Some background:

5xxx GPUs booted daily lives just fine still after Alpha 1. Afaik, this
bug occured before Alpha 2.

I have 5770 which worked with Alpha 1 and later images. Plymouth worked
and desktop loaded with resolution 800x600 without any boot parameter
tweaking (nomodeset, radeon.modeset=0).

I tried to find Alpha 1 and Alpha 2 images and/or builds between them in
order to address this bug more specifically. Unfortunately I haven't
found any Alpha images so far.

Beta 1 & 2 (32 and 64 bit versions) just give me a black screen (signal
gets lost) when Plymouth is done and desktop should be shown. Removing
"quiet splash" from kernel boot parameters doesn't help. Nomodeset
and/or radeon.modeset=0 have no effect on my computer. I've tried
installation using USB disk and CD-RW.

My setup:

CPU: Intel i5-750 2,66 GHz
MOBO: Asus P7P55D
GPU: Asus Ati 5770 1 GB - model EAH5770/2DIS/1GD5/V2
MEM: Kingston 1333D3N9K2, 2x 2 GB
HD: Samsung F3 1 TB
PSU: Corsair 400 W
DISPLAY: NEX T4211N, 42" Full HD - connection between this and 5770 is through
DVI

Just bump if you need more specific HW details.

[Bug 560306] Re: [lucid] ATI hd5xxx cards wrongly doing kms?

2010-04-22 Thread Jiri Grönroos
Dave, are you sure the reporter even has Evergreen (5xxx) GPU? Lspci
says it's 4350 and dmesg says the system is requsting RV710_pfp.bin and
RV710_me.bin. Ati dropped R naming with Evergreen series. In my
example (5770) system should be requesting JUNIPER files, see
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/dwmw2/linux-
firmware.git;a=tree;f=radeon;h=3dc32482fcf179c43e2fcc0b30303f231774820a;hb=HEAD

Also, does this occur on AMD CPU/chipset? All reports in here and forums
seem to have i5/i7 (CPU) and P55/X58 (chipset).

[Bug 560306] Re: [lucid] ATI hd5xxx cards wrongly doing kms?

2010-04-23 Thread Jiri Grönroos
I have no problem in RC, signal stays even after Plymouth has finished.
I have resolution of 1368x768 (as opposed to 800x600 in Alphas). I did
not change anything (parts, cables) on my system.

Rafael, I only have one monitor and one cable connected at once. The
first thing I tried was to change the cable but the signal was lost even
with another DVI cable. The cable has always been connected to the upper
output in GPU (which is to say DVI-0) although I've tried DVI-1 with
similiar symptoms. I also plugged two cables into both DVI outputs at
once (although only one of the cables had monitor in another end
connected) but the signal was still lost after Plymouth.

I did not try to include Tim's linux-firmware_1.35~rtg1 into live CD.

Robert, I've tried to boot many daily builds without "quiet splash" but
it had no effect (no matter how I put the cables).

I'm able to provide all files from /var/log/ from a successful RC live
session as from installed system. I'm not able to provide dmesg from
failed boot attempts. Now I'm using Ati's fglrx. Could this be a race
condition somewhere?

This bug is present in steam 16.04 LTS multiverse package
1:1.0.0.48-1ubuntu3. Debian (stretch/testing) has 1.0.0.52 which is the
same version that Valve offers. This bug should be fixed there.

[Bug 1563553] [NEW] Translations not loading in Gnome Calendar 3.19.92-0ubuntu2

2016-03-29 Thread Jiri Grönroos
Public bug reported:

Calendar UI is shown in English although I have chosen Finnish as a
language.

.mo seems to be in place:

abc@Standard-PC-i440FX-PIIX-1996:/usr/share/locale-langpack/fi/LC_MESSAGES$ ls
-al |grep calendar
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8385 maali 22 19:05 gnome-calendar.mo

and it belongs to package language-pack-fi-base

abc@Standard-PC-i440FX-PIIX-1996:/usr/share/locale-langpack/fi/LC_MESSAGES$
apt-file search gnome-calendar.mo |grep fi
language-pack-gnome-fi-base:
/usr/share/locale-langpack/fi/LC_MESSAGES/gnome-calendar.mo

Tested and verified also when using German as a language, probably
affects other languages as well.

[Bug 1563557] [NEW] .mo files for Contacts are not included in langpacks

2016-03-29 Thread Jiri Grönroos
Public bug reported:

Contacts UI is shown in English although I have chosen Finnish as a
language.

Seems like .mo files are not included in language-pack-$-base debs:

abc@Standard-PC-i440FX-PIIX-1996:/usr/share/locale-langpack/fi/LC_MESSAGES$
apt-file search gnome-contacts.mo
abc@Standard-PC-i440FX-PIIX-1996:/usr/share/locale-langpack/fi/LC_MESSAGES$

[Bug 1559667] Re: Grub fails to install onto /target/ on daily Ubuntu Gnome Xenial 19/03/16

2016-03-30 Thread Jiri Grönroos
This was a clean installation attempt on a formatted SSD. I did not
receive any warnings after setting up the partitions and pressing
Continue.

The installation was similar to 15.10 installation process which went
just fine on the same system. I then upgraded 15.10 to 16.04 which I'm
now running.

I'm planning to test again the installation of 16.04 LTS on more recent
installation media (beta 2) as soon as I receive a new SSD, hopefully
next week. Will report back then.

[Bug 975319] [NEW] [precise] Compose key page refers to non-existent "Region and Language" window and "Layouts" tab

2012-04-06 Thread Jiri Grönroos
Public bug reported:

See http://91.189.93.101/tips-specialchars.html#compose since yelp's
content isn't up-to-date.

1. Click the icon at the very right of the menu bar and select
System Settings.
2. Click Region and Language.
3. Select the Layouts tab and click Options.

There is no "Region and Language" in Precise's g-c-c. "Keyboard Layout" exists
and this is where one can configure compose key.
Also there isn't "Layouts" tab anymore. It's a single window where user has to
choose the keyboard layout and then click Options...

So both 2. and 3. need rewording.

[Bug 975813] [NEW] "Tile windows" section contains non-working keyboard shortcut and mentions "Windows key"

2012-04-07 Thread Jiri Grönroos
Public bug reported:

As Yelp's content isn't up-to-date, please see http://91.189.93.101

To maximize a window along a side of the screen, grab the titlebar and
drag it to the left or right side until half of the screen is
highlighted. Using the keyboard, hold down the windows key and press the Left or
Right key.

There are two problems here:

1. Keyboard shortcut "windows key" + left/right doesn't work. It
requires user to hold Ctrl as well.

2. "Windows key" should be called "Super key".

[Bug 975825] [NEW] "Tile windows" section contains misinformation on how to restore window size

2012-04-07 Thread Jiri Grönroos
Public bug reported:

As Yelp's content isn't up-to-date, please see http://91.189.93.101
/shell-windows-tiled.html

To restore a window to its original size, drag it away from the side of
the screen, or use the same keyboard shortcut you used to maximize.

There are two problems here:

1. A window doesn't restore its original size as user drags it away from
the edge of screen.

2. Keyboard shortcut doesn't restore window's original size.

I'm not sure how to reword this sentence.

[Bug 975890] [NEW] "Maximize and unmaximize a window" section refers to "Windows key"

2012-04-07 Thread Jiri Grönroos
Public bug reported:

Since Yelp's content isn't up-to-date, please see http://91.189.93.101
/shell-windows-maximize.html

There are two sentences on this page that use term "Windows key". All
instances of "Meta key", "Windows key" etc. were supposed to be replaced
by using "Super key". Please replace "Windows key" with "Super key" for
the sake of unification.

To maximize a window, grab the titlebar and drag it to the top of the
screen, or just double-click the titlebar. To maximize a window using
the keyboard, hold down the windows key and press ↑.

To restore a window to its unmaximized size, drag it away from the edges
of the screen. If the window is fully maximized, you can double-click
the titlebar to restore it. You can also use the keyboard shortcut
windows key and ↓.

[Bug 975899] [NEW] "Switch between windows" section incorrectly states that window previews will be shown

2012-04-07 Thread Jiri Grönroos
Public bug reported:

Since Yelp's content isn't up-to-date, please see http://91.189.93.101
/shell-windows-switching.html

When you hold down the Alt key and then press Tab,
a window switcher appears. This shows a list of the windows you
have open, with a preview.

There are two incorrect statements:

1. No windows will be shown, only icons of applications
2. There is no "preview" (which probably refers to preview of open windows)

Instead window switcher shows icons of open applications with no
previews of windows.

[Bug 976742] [NEW] "Why did my computer turn off/suspend when the battery got to 10%?" section incorrectly states there's hibernation available

2012-04-08 Thread Jiri Grönroos
Public bug reported:

Since Yelp's content isn't up-to-date, please see http://91.189.93.101
/power-lowpower.html

You can change what happens when the battery level gets too low by
clicking the battery menu in the menu bar and selecting Power Settings.
Look at the When power is critically low setting. You can choose for the
computer to suspend, hibernate or shut down. If you choose shut down,
your applications and documents will not be saved before the computer
turns off.

However, since hibernation is disabled by default, there is no
"hibernate" option available in drop-down menu. Please remove
"hibernate" option from this page.

[Bug 967350] Re: Precise's ubuntu-docs "Wireless network troubleshooter" missing strings

2012-04-08 Thread Jiri Grönroos
I reported this bug when the new version of ubuntu-docs wasn't yet
uploaded. So yes, I had an old version of ubuntu-docs and hence those
sentences "were missing" from the translation template. I gave up on
yelp and I'm now using David's http://91.189.93.101/index.html for
translations. Marking this as invalid.

[Bug 930991] Re: Add support for Ezoom (or a similar zoom functionality)

2012-02-15 Thread Jiri Grönroos
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 603415 ***

This bug is actually more than just one bug.

Gnome-control-center and "non-functional zoom option" visible in UI is
the first one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/603415

Non-resizable launcher (and other Unity parts):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/76269

Unity's overlay shortcuts clashing with default Compiz Ezoom shortcuts
should have its own bug report. I couldn't find one on LP. Could you
file a new bug report or shall I?

You probably should have a look at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/781529 as well.

[Bug 933001] [NEW] Unity's "Keyboard Shortcuts" overlay clashes with default Ezoom keyboard shortcuts

2012-02-15 Thread Jiri Grönroos
Public bug reported:

Original report: bug 930991

Unity's new "Keyboard Shortcuts" overlay clashes with default Ezoom
keyboard shortcuts in a way that makes Ezoom unusable.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start ccsm and make sure Ezoom is enabled and has its default settings
(Button4 + Button5)
2. Zoom using Super and scroll
3. See "Keyboard Shortcuts" overlay appearing when in fact user wants to zoom
in specific area.

Because of this I tried to map Ezoom to Button4 +
Button 5 but then I probably ended up with bug 931927

[Bug 934517] [NEW] update-notifier instructs to click "check for updates" although there is no such option

2012-02-17 Thread Jiri Grönroos
Public bug reported:

In Precise alpha, update-notifier shows up in menu bar as a icon with
exclamation mark. When I click the icon, I see "The update information
is outdated. This may be caused by network problems or by a repository
that is no longer available. Please update manually by clicking on this
icon and then selecting 'Check for updates' and check if some of the
listed repositories fail."

However, a) there is no "this icon" (bad wording because update-notifier
is nowadays an indicator) and b) Check for updates doesn't exist. I only
see "Show updates" option in update-notifier's menu. Because of this, I
installed shutter via apt-get (without doing apt-get update) and now
update-notifier is gone so I can't provide a screenshot.

I believe that update-notifier was shown because I added a non-existent
PPA.

[Bug 934860] [NEW] When enabled in ccsm, "Show Desktop" icon shown above BFB in Unity's Launcher

2012-02-18 Thread Jiri Grönroos

1. Open ccsm

The icon shows up in the launcher just above workspace switcher

now shown above BFB as seen in the screenshot.

[Bug 1521082] [NEW] Allow users to connect to the Internet using USB tethering

2015-11-29 Thread Jiri Grönroos
Public bug reported:

After #1421583 was fixed, there is now an option to share data
connection using WiFi AP. However, I still rely on USB tethering in many
cases instead of WiFi. The latest example was when I was without
firmware for WiFi adapter after installing Debian 8.2. Luckily Nexus 5
with Android 6.0 offered an option to use USB tethering and I was able
to fetch firmware.

Please add an option to have USB tethering in ubuntu-system-settings.
This option shouldn't offer anything else than a simple "On/Off" switch.
The interface itself should act as an Ethernet interface, the same way
as Android does.

[Bug 1529604] [NEW] String "Media Player" in sound menu not translatable

[Bug 1529604] Re: String "Media Player" in sound menu not translatable

2015-12-28 Thread Jiri Grönroos
** Description changed:

I'm running Ubuntu 15.04 (OTA-8) on bq Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition.
String "Media Player" is shown in English in sound menu all the time and
no such string exists in pot files (doesn't appear in indicator-sound
  nor mediaplayer-app)

  1. Turn on your Ubuntu Phone
  2. Use some other language than English (I use Finnish translations)
  3. Open sound menu
  4. See string "Media Player" in English, although one would expect it to be
translated

  See attached screenshot.
+
+ This new "Media Player" feature landed on OTA-8 upgrade, it wasn't there
+ on OTA-7.

[Bug 1414707] Re: Login fails, returns to login and flickering prevents password typing

2015-02-20 Thread Jiri Grönroos
I too have this issue with a fresh vivid installation. In my case this
isn't a virtual machine. Booting with the default options, logging into
Gnome Shell from gdm, and bam, the screen is locked instantly. Lock
screen flickers and gives authentication error.

I bypassed this problem by going into tty and restarting gdm (sudo
service gdm restart). Second login attempt doesn't lock the session
instantly. I can also confirm that by selecting the systemd boot option
the issue doesn't persist.

There's something in dmesg when booting without systemd, but with
systemd the following dmesg output doesn't exist:

dmesg |grep logind

[6.988059] systemd-logind[1754]: Watching system buttons on
/dev/input/event1 (Power Button)
[6.988085] systemd-logind[1754]: Watching system buttons on

[ 56.858239] systemd-logind[1754]: Removed session c1.
[ 63.669131] systemd-logind[1754]: New session c3 of user gdm.
[ 70.428732] systemd-logind[1754]: New session c4 of user myusername.

[ 56.858239] systemd-logind[1754]: Removed session c1. <- this is the
output when restarting gdm from tty.

Hopefully this helps a little bit.

[Bug 1235192] [NEW] Strings in U1 window for 13.10 installer are not in pot file

2013-10-04 Thread Jiri Grönroos
Public bug reported:

As posted: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-
translators/2013-October/006295.html

U1 strings in installer window (as shown http://i.imgur.com/HfzwpNA.png)
are not found in pot file. Strings are set for translation here
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
installer/ubiquity/trunk/view/head:/gui/gtk/stepUbuntuOne.ui but for
some reason are not extracted into pot. For example
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/+source/ubiquity/+pots
/ubiquity-
debconf/fi/+translate?batch=10&show=all&search=have+an+account+yet is
nowhere to be found although the same words appear in .ui file.

Tested on ubuntu-13.10-beta2-desktop-amd64.iso.

2011-11-18 Thread Jiri Grönroos
Public bug reported:

I have thousands of MP3 and FLAC songs on my library. I usually play
music on Oneiric 64-bit in random order and sometimes when gmusicbrowser
automatically changes the song, sound just stops and I just receive an
error "Playing error : Resource not found. at
/usr/bin/../share/gmusicbrowser/gmusicbrowser_gstreamer-0.10.pm line

I need to skip the song and double-click it the song in order to play
it.
