[Bug 198871] Re: Jmicron AHCI controller probs...

2008-07-30 Thread Daniel Moerner
This bug is present in Intrepid Alpha 3 as well. This controller works
fine under 2.6.25.4 on SystemRescueCD and with Lenny Beta 2 installer.
This ubuntu-specific.

[Bug 198871] Re: Jmicron AHCI controller probs...

2008-07-30 Thread Daniel Moerner
This is NOT a kernel bug. Using debootstrap to build Intrepid Ibex from
a running Gentoo system allows it to boot and recognize the JMicron
controller. I will try to test precisely what is causing this bug to
occur--now I suspect it's something related to hal if it isn't a kernel
bug.

2008-07-30 Thread Daniel Moerner
I was wrong. Intrepid Alpha 3 LiveCD does work. Gutsy/Hardy Heron do
not work. Intrepid boot.img.gz build on July 15, 2008 does not work.
The relevant data from that busybox shell is attached. It is entirely
possible at this point that the fix was committed in the last 15 days
between the build of this boot.img.gz and today.

[Bug 253516] [NEW] fglrx does not work with Radeon HD 3650 in Intrepid

The issue is that fglrx does not work with Radeon HD 3650 in Intrepid

This is one way to fix it, but a more portable fix would be to just
patch debian/rules. In general it's better to use debian/rules for
things like this instead of patching the source. If you do want to
patch the source, you might want to use a patch system like cdbs or
quilt. In the patch below I also spaced out the ./configure call a
bit to make it easier to read.

The problem is that it is setting up vim-runtime before removing vim-
tiny. You can solve this problem by either:

aptitude purge vim-tiny vim-runtime:

Or:

dpkg -P vim-tiny && aptitude install vim

2009-01-31 Thread Daniel Moerner
Yes, this bug is confirmed, the original work I did to convert tint to
tint2 in Debian has revealed itself to be insufficient. Upstream has
already been informed about the name conflict and voluntarily agreed to
change the name; I have just asked them if they are about to push a new
upstream version. If they do push a new version, then I will just upload
that. Otherwise, I will push a manual fix.

[Bug 295401] Re: no workout preset data for kipina

2008-11-08 Thread Daniel Moerner
Hi, a simpler fix for this problem is to change the parameters passed to
./configure.

./configure -h explains:

  --sysconfdir=DIR read-only single-machine data [PREFIX/etc]

Since PREFIX is set to /usr, it is installing to /usr/etc. You should
pass --sysconfdir=$(DESTDIR)/etc to ./configure in debian/rules and then
remove the superfluous "mv" command in the install target.

By the way, I came across this bug while perusing Planet Ubuntu, which
has your blog. If you want any more comments on your package I'd be
happy to communicate with you by email (for instance, the copyright file
is currently incomplete and the package is not Lintian clean)

[Bug 253874] Re: Some Fn keys not work on Samsung R60

2008-08-08 Thread Daniel Moerner
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in hotkey-setup.

[Bug 254965] Re: Intrepid alpha 3 red screen

2008-08-08 Thread Daniel Moerner
It is difficult to triage this bug to a specific package without more
information. Please try booting your system with the "quiet splash"
parameters removed from the kernel line. To do this, boot Ubuntu, and
press Esc at the first screen. Then go down to the "kernel" line, hit
"e", delete "quiet" and "splash", hit enter, and hit "b". Post the
results of that attempt to boot. If it succeeds, then please change
this to a bug against usplash.

[Bug 256783] [NEW] (Intrepid) empathy should Recommend: telepathy-idle to support IRC

2008-08-10 Thread Daniel Moerner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

There has been some discussion on including empathy in future releases
of Ubuntu instead of Pidgin. To replicate Pidgin's functionality,
Empathy should include IRC support to avoid the inclusion of extra cruft
(e.g. XChat) for which there is no room on the LiveCD. Therefore, I
think that empathy should recommend telepathy-idle to support IRC.

Description: High-level library and user-interface for Telepathy
Empathy consists of a rich set of reusable instant messaging widgets, and a
GNOME client using those widgets. It uses Telepathy and Nokia's Mission
Control, and reuses Gossip's UI. The main goal is to permit desktop
integration by providing libempathy and libempathy-gtk libraries.
libempathy-gtk is a set of powerful widgets that can be embeded into any
 GNOME application.

[Bug 243803] Re: Grub Installs To Wrong Root Path

2008-08-13 Thread Daniel Moerner
This is confirmed. Grub NEVER works when using the boot.img.gz from the
netboot directory with a flash drive--it always installs grub on the
flash drive. To fix this requires:

1) edit groot in /boot/grub/menu.lst
2) reinstall grub on the right partition.
3) edit /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume to fix correct swap (otherwise
usplash is broken).

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see a definite, irresolvable

update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade --simulate" and seeing if apt-get
finds any errors. Of course, you don't want to actually update this way

[Bug 254042] Re: debootstrap does not install apt with --variant=buildd for intrepid chroot

2008-08-01 Thread Daniel Moerner
This is confirmed using archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu, so the problem is not
with your local machine (obviously). debootstrap --variant=buildd only
looks at priority required plus Build-Essential. The problem is that
apt is in priority important:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ aptitude search ~prequired | grep apt
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ aptitude search ~pimportant | grep apt
i A apt - Advanced front-end for dpkg
i A apt-utils - APT utility programs

I did not mark this as a confirmed bug because this appears to be
intentional behavior, so I think this might be a feature rather than a
bug.

[Bug 253107] Re: Restricted driver missing, HP DV9627CL, on Hardy

2008-08-02 Thread Daniel Moerner
The error produced by jockey-gtk seems to be the result of a failure to
update your apt database. The fact that it referenced an out-of-date
package implies that you did not run "sudo apt-get update" or update
through Synaptic prior to running jockey.

When it asks you to do those, it means that you should open a terminal
Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal and then type in those commands
and add them to your bug report.

For instance, on my current machine (non-ubuntu)

[Bug 252708] Re: Module "acpi-cpufreq" fails to load on Intel P35 mainboard

2008-08-02 Thread Daniel Moerner
I don't believe the C2Q are supported by acpi-cpufreq yet. p4-clockmod

I have a MSI P43 Neo3, and you have to go into the bios and enable CPU
frequency scaling there. The mainboard will do it automatically for
you.

Hi, I maintain pekwm in Debian; this new upstream release fixes a
serious functionality bug that prevents window manipulation when NumLock
or ScrollLock is enabled.

Cheers, Daniel

Please sync pekwm 0.1.10-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

Changelog since current jaunty version 0.1.9a-1:

pekwm (0.1.10-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New Upstream Version
- debian/patches/properly-handle-nullglob-in-themes-script.diff: Don't
output '*' as a theme name if theme directory is empty or display
arbitrary non-directories in theme menu. Patch written by me and
  integrated in upstream git.
- debian/patches/make-empty-themes-dir-in-home-dir-on-first-run.diff:
Make empty ~/.pekwm/themes directory on first run if it doesn't
already exist, preventing an ugly error message using default menu
configuration. Patch written by me and integrated in upstream git.
  * Added Homepage, Vcs-Git, and Vcs-Browser fields to debian/control.
  * Updated Upstream Authors field in debian/copyright.
  * Updated Build-Depends to point at libpng2-dev and libjpeg62-dev instead
of non-existent libpng-dev and libjpeg-dev packages.
  * contrib/ scripts are now installed in /usr/share/pekwm and documented in
README.Debian. Added zenity to Suggests to support new contrib scripts.
  * Removed obsolete debian/NEWS

[Bug 263155] Re: cpuinfo not reporting the correct speed for core 2 duo

2008-08-30 Thread Daniel Moerner
I am marking this bug as invalid. /proc/cpuinfo is reporting the
correct speed of your cpu because cpu frequency scaling is turned on.
This causes your CPU to scale back to a lower frequency during periods
of activity to reduce temperature and power draw. 1.6 GHz is the lowest
frequency that the E7200 scales to by default. If you want to turn off
cpu frequency scaling, then echo performance >
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_governor.

So long as you are applying makefile-add-_GNU_SOURCE.diff,
h_addr_list.diff is superfluous and you shouldn't need to apply a
separate Ubuntu patchset. In the Debian package I decided to just define
_GNU_SOURCE since this logic has already been removed from the upstream
dev branch.

[Bug 147048] Re: suspend only works once

2007-12-02 Thread Daniel Moerner
This bug is back in Hardy Heron Tribe 1 on my Thinkpad X40. To get
suspend to work you have to uncomment Save PCI State in /etc/default
/acpi-support, but suspend only works the first time after each boot.

[Bug 479842] Re: Karmic freezes on resume from suspend Thinkpad X200s

2009-12-23 Thread Daniel Moerner
A bit more clarification: I ran "pm-suspend" from the commandline and
multiple times got a crash, so I tried doing this. It seemed to crash,
and nothing came up in tail -f. However, I just left the computer
hanging there for about 20 minutes. When I got back, it was no longer
hanging, and I had the full trace sitting in front of me.

[Bug 479842] Re: Karmic freezes on resume from suspend Thinkpad X200s

2009-12-23 Thread Daniel Moerner
I can't reproduce the problem on:

Linux skynet 2.6.33-020633rc1-generic #020633rc1 SMP Fri Dec 18 10:08:58
UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

It also suspends/resumes much faster now. Anyone want to try a bisect?
:)
