[Bug 21416] Re: KN400: Blank / black screen when switching to text consoles
I received today a report from a friend to whom I gave an Ubuntu 8.04.1 CD to try to install on his wifes Acer Aspire 1353 LC that at some point during starup of the LiveCD the screen went black. Unfortunatly that's all the info I have and I could not be there to witness it first hand. -- KN400: Blank / black screen when switching to text consoles https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/21416 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 284541] Re: Update manager does not report the last update correctly
I see the same problem (currently it says last update 8 days ago), so I performed an apt-get update and stored the output in the attached file. As you see there is no 404. Yet update-manager still maintains it is outdated. If anyone familiar with the source of update-manager could tell on base of what information this number of dates is computed, e.g. file date of xyz, then I can look up here whether those file have maybe have a wrong date. BTW There are two related bug reports. In 233791 the reporter blames it also on unavailable repository. In bug 223505 though the last comment is by a person who reduced sources.list to a one liner (just the main archive) and still gets a wrong indication. ** Attachment added: "apt-get update output" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18870882/x -- Update manager does not report the last update correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/284541 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 310057] [NEW] [ppa] openoffice.org-pdfimport errors in imported file
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org I downloaded http://online.fahrplaninfo.zvv.ch/showpdf.php?pdf=pdf/41/ah_41813a/ah_41813a_j09_a_01564.pdf and imported it using openoffice.org-pdfimport 0.3.2+OOo3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 I notice some differences to when the file is viewed in evince, which I think looks right: 1. In the top left a black square is shown where evince shows a white bus pictogram within the black square. 2. Right next to the black square I see the number 813 aligned on the bottom with the black square. evince shows the number at mid height within a rectangle, which was not drawn in the imported file. 3. Top middle of the page there is a VZO Logo which evince shows as the three letters VZO in the colors red, blue and green and a small ZVV logo on its top right. In the imported file the letter O ist hollow instead of green and the ZVV logo is not seen at all. If I export the imported file to PDF right after having opened it, the resulting PDF shows the three differences to the original as mentioned above. As a side note: The letters VZO are not shown as smoothly as evince shows them, they are jagged. But if after opening the file I export it to PDF right away, the resulting PDF viewed in evince shows VZO again smooth. So I consider the jagged letters not a "real bug". $ dpkg-query -W *openoffice* | grep ' .' openoffice.org-base-core1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-calc 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-common 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-core 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-draw 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-help-de 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-help-en-gb 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-help-en-us 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-help-it 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-hyphenation 0.3 openoffice.org-hyphenation-de 1:2.4.0-2ubuntu4 openoffice.org-hyphenation-en-us2.4-2ubuntu1 openoffice.org-hyphenation-it 1:2.4.0-2ubuntu4 openoffice.org-impress 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-java-common 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-l10n-common 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-l10n-de 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-l10n-en-gb 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-l10n-en-za 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-l10n-it 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-math 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-ogltrans 1:2.4.1-11ubuntu2.1 openoffice.org-pdfimport0.3.2+OOo3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-style-human 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 openoffice.org-thesaurus-de 20070408-3 openoffice.org-thesaurus-de-ch 20070408-3 openoffice.org-thesaurus-en-au 2.1-3.1 openoffice.org-thesaurus-en-us 1:2.4.0-2ubuntu4 openoffice.org-thesaurus-it 0+20050726-0ubuntu2 openoffice.org-writer 1:3.0.0-6ubuntu0intrepid1 $ grep '^deb ' /etc/apt/sources.list deb http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid main restricted deb http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-updates main restricted deb http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid universe deb http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid multiverse deb http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-backports main restricted universe multiverse deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu intrepid-security main restricted deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu intrepid-security universe deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu intrepid-security multiverse deb http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-updates universe multiverse deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu intrepid main ** Affects: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [ppa] openoffice.org-pdfimport errors in imported file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310057 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 328167] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon eating 100% CPU at login in Jaunty
I landed here because of a similar issue. Maybe the same as Francois Rigaut describes. It happens when doing ssh. I have ssh-agent running, which should supply the key to ssh. Some times setting up an ssh connection hangs. And the only solution to make ssh work again is to remove the environement variables that tell ssh to ask an agent for the keys. Now this happened again, and I had a look at top and noticed gnome- keyring-daemon at 100%. Next time I reboot I will have a look on gnome-keyring to see if it goes to 100% just in interaction with ssh/ssh-agent. [Bug 239374] Re: update problem linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-19-generic
remove this problem from bug list, my mistake. During ubuntu installation I reserved an area of 100MB for \boot directory. On the system I left too many upgrade whiteout removing old kernel. So yesterday, I tried to remove old kernels and now the /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-19-generic is correctly installed. Thank you ... [Bug 346767] [NEW] KDE4 associating the wrong MIME type with .jar files
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase-runtime As reported in bug #309778 KDE associates .jar files with .zip files - so you can not run .jar files but only extract them. The commands xdg-mime and gvfs-info both report "application/x-java-archive" which is correct but file and kmimetypefinder both report "application/zip" (kmimetypefinder also reports 'accuracy 40' - a little bit low?) - so it first seemed to me that KDE is using the MIME database from the file command where it should use the shared-mime-info database as GNOME does - but after trying the same with a Python script only the file command missreports "text/x-java charset=us-ascii" and xdg-mime, gvfs-info and kmimetypefinder all report the correct "text/x-python" (kmimetypefinder this time with accuracy of 100) - so it seems to be using the correct database but somehow reporting the wrong mimetype for .jar files. Happens in intrepid with KDE 4.2 backports (4:4.2.0-0ubuntu1~intrepid2) and in daily actual jaunty (4:4.2.1-0ubuntu2). ** Affects: kdebase-runtime (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- KDE4 associating the wrong MIME type with .jar files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/346767 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 358792] [NEW] kget plasma applets not working
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdenetwork In the kget package (jaunty / 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu1) there are three plasma applets included (piechart/panelbar/barchart) but none of them works - it seems to me that only the .desktop files are included in the package an no library with the actual function. In the intrepid package the two files "/usr/lib/kde4/plasma_applet_kget.so" and "/usr/lib/kde4/plasma_engine_kget.so" were included but in jauntys package they are missing / no similar file is included. Don't no if it worked in intrepid but I found a screen shot how the applets should look like at " http://polishlinux.org/reviews/kde4/Kget_all.png " so i guess it worked once in KDE. ** Affects: kdenetwork (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- kget plasma applets not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/358792 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 309778] Re: KDE always associates *.jar with the zip mime type
Same problem here since at least 8.10 - so I tried the same under OpenSuse based KDE 4.3 LiveCD - xdg-mime didn't give any output at all an kmimetypefinder gave the same results as David said but with the accuracy of 100 for -f - so in Dolphin the file is correctly associated with .jar. Same results in Mandriva 2009 Spring and Fedora 11 but here the kmimetypefinder command doesn't accept -c or -f and just gives application/x-java-archive (accuracy 100). On rigth click Properties all the three also show "Type: Java-Archive" und below the additional entry "Content: Zip archive". Btw. - how is the accuracy of kmimetypefinder calculated? ** Attachment added: "Example .jar file (Java version of gnome-nettool)" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/30666575/jNetTool-0.4.0.jar -- KDE always associates *.jar with the zip mime type https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/309778 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebase-runtime in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 404611] [NEW] Konqueror 4.3 - Missing SSL icon and Crypto settings
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase Since KDE 4.3 (whether in Jaunty with backports or in Karmic) Konqueror no longer shows the green SSL icon (on the right side of the location bar) on https sites - so you can not get any information at all about the current connection security. Furthermore the complete Crypto settings in "Settings -> Configure Konqueror ..." is missing (should be an entry between Cookies and Browser Identification) - so no possibility to remove a forever accepted certificate (except if you delete ~/.kde4/share/apps/config/ksslcertificatemanager) or to change any TLS/SSL related settings. Don't know if is it a upstream bug (didn't found a report there) because the KDE 4.3 Live CD from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Medias/images/iso/ has the same problems. Even if the default browser in 9.10 will be Arora I think there will be enough people still wanting to use Konqueror - so I find it a severe regression. ** Affects: kdebase (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Konqueror 4.3 - Missing SSL icon and Crypto settings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404611 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 127101] Re: laptop hangs when switching video mode
Not really for me. Shutdown seems to work always, reboot mostly but switching to a console crashes my system nearly every time (HP compaq nx5000 with 855GM graphics). Don't know if it is a coincidence - but everything seem to work (incl. console switching) every time I did a successful reboot from within GNOME (without powering off the machine)!? The i810 driver an 915resolution package works totally stable for me - wouldn't it be better to use the 'i810' driver as default instead 'intel' on fresh installed systems (as in pre 7.10)? People could get distracted from using Linux if their system crashes every time they just want to shutdown or reboot - so I would say this bug should really be fixed before 7.10 Final. -- laptop hangs when switching video mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127101 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes - the laptop has a 1400x1050 resolution. But I don't get grey blocks or a distorted screen - the screen switches off instantaneous (completely - even the back light goes off). [Bug 127101] Re: laptop hangs when switching video mode
Hi Peter Yes - I'm running your package (installed it with 'dpkg -i xserver-xorg- video-intel_2.1.1-0ubuntu9~pcjc2_i386.deb' - is that correct?) The clean_shutdown and crash logs were copied after booting the machine into recovery mode - so no X was started after the crash or clean shutdown. The now_working log was copied after logging into GNOME and out again to test if it works - as I know gdm then restarts X - after that I copied Xorg.0.log (Sorry for confusing you). So now I attached the Xorg.0.log.old. There you can find the missing line concerning the loading of the kernel module. I also tried to set Options DRI to false and NoAccel to true - but that didn't stabilize anything. ** Attachment added: "Xorg.0.log-2 + lsmod output" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9972345/Xorg.0.log-2.tar.gz -- laptop hangs when switching video mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127101 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 146512] Re: Reinstall required for some applications to work
I use gutsy and everyday update my packages. A few days ago the bug disappeared. Today i.e. after my update of yesterday (about 22:00 UTC on October 16) I get that error again. Trying to find a workaround I played with things I find mentioned in ld.so manpage. This had an impact: /etc/ld.so.nohwcap When this file is present the dynamic linker will load the non-optimized version of a library, even if the CPU supports the optimized version. If I touch /etc/ld.so.nohwcap I can execute my program and do not get any error. If I remove that file I get the Inconsistency error message. If I touch the file again, the error goes away. -- Reinstall required for some applications to work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146512 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 146512] Re: Reinstall required for some applications to work
I used strace to take a look at what is different in the two cases (i.e. with ld.so.nohwcap and without). When java is started then obviously a libc is loaded as for almost any executable program. Depending on the existance of ld.so.nohwcap either /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 is loaded or /lib/libc.so.6. Later on jna.jar uses dl_open to request libc and it looks like this always opens /lib/libc.so.6 no matter whether ld.so.nohwcap exists or not. With ld.so.nohwcap /lib/libc.so.6 is always used and there is no problem. Without ld.so.nohwcap first /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6 is loaded, then later /lib/libc.so.6 is loaded, and this might cause the inconsistency. -- Reinstall required for some applications to work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146512 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 216669] Re: webcam connection problem
Christian, In the thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4700766) above mentioned, is reported the trace regarding a webcam that a person told me was a VX-3000. Now, today exactly, I asked to confirm this info. It seems that the webcam adopted was a NX-3000. So my first statement is incorrect. The second trace on another(working) PC we have: Here you go: UEVENT[1208033301.357831] add /devices/pci:00/:00:1d.7/usb7/7-1 (usb) UEVENT[1208033301.357918] add /class/usb_endpoint/usbdev7.3_ep00 (usb_endpoint) UEVENT[1208033301.358115] add /devices/pci:00/:00:1d.7/usb7/7-1/7-1:1.0 (usb) UEVENT[1208033301.358473] add /class/usb_endpoint/usbdev7.3_ep83 (usb_endpoint) is invalid, it regards a NX-3000!!! Now if you want, we can close this bug for generic reasons, but the problem remain, a lot of people in their unlucky life bought a microsoft webcam. Cas you try to help us.. [Bug 47971] Re: synaptics touch pad(laptop) clicks too easily
I used this app (http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/gsynaptics) to avoid the problem.. After having manually set "SHMConfig" "true" in my xorg.conf, gsynaptics started and allowed me modifying tapping interval for my Dell Vostro 1500..
