[Bug 158249] Re: [needs-packaging] gcad3d

2009-04-22 Thread Andrew Fenn
It's "freeware" however I don't see any source code available to compile
it myself, I tried running the download however there are problems
because it's looking for a dependency in the wrong place (I already have
it installed). This kind of thing could be avoided if I have the ability
to compile it myself. If the source code is available then great,
however I only see a binary.

With that being said, with only a binary it's going to be a complete
pain to maintain this thing. I suggest you go to the author and convince
him or her to release the source code under any license they like then
put in a request to package it in Debian (then add the request status
here). When Debian adds it, Ubuntu will pull it from Debian when they
next take a snapshot of unstable.

[Bug 284750] [NEW] License change, time to package it up

2008-10-16 Thread Andrew Fenn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-cg-toolkit

There is already an nvidia-cg-toolkit package which installs the 2004
files directly from Nvidia's website but this package should be made
obsolete. At the time this package needed to be downloaded directly from
Nivida's website due to copyright issues but this is no longer the case.

If one downloads the tgz for Linux ( on this page:
http://developer.nvidia.com/object/cg_toolkit.html#downloads ) there are
multiple exemptions allowing for Debian to re-distribute the package.

Looking at the .tgz file go to /./usr/local/Cg/docs/license.txt

"2.1.3 Linux Exception. Notwithstanding the foregoing terms of Section
2.1.1, SOFTWARE designed exclusively for use on the Linux operating
system may be copied and redistributed, provided that the binary
files thereof are not modified in any way (except for unzipping of
  compressed files)."

nvidia-cg-toolkit should be packaged and included into Ubuntu as a real
package now that the license has changed to allow it. By doing this it
will then be possible to build debs that suggest or require it such as
Ogre3D and Funguloids that current have it disabled but don't run as
well as they could do.

I have already built a deb for it which is available in my ppa:

[Bug 290368] [NEW] [wishlist] Incorrect syncing of google calender events

2008-10-28 Thread Andrew Fenn
Public bug reported:

Some would call this a feature, for me it's a bug.

Two computers one is set to one time zone, perhaps +7 GMT (computer 1)
the other is +0 GMT (computer 2).

If computer 1 syncs with the google calender first, when computer 2
syncs the times are wrong. On my +7 GMT computer the event time is
correct 3:15pm however on computer 2 the time of the event is marked as
8:15 pm.

This is because in my Google calendar settings the time zone is set to
+7 GMT hence why computer 2 is wrong.

This is correct functionality, however I also need an option so that
whatever time zone the computer is set to it always displays the time
given in the time zone it is set so both computer 1 and 2 would be set
to 3:15 pm.

[Bug 50260] Re: On LTS 6.06 all trivial SDL graphics are extremely CPU intensive.

2008-04-19 Thread Andrew Fenn
Are you still getting these problems in Ubuntu Gutsy or Hardy?

Are you sure this is an SDL problem rather then an OpenGL problem? The
list of games leads me to believe it is the latter rather then the
former.. Do any games that you know for sure that don't run SDL run fine
for you?

[Bug 48979] Re: Slow disk performance with Seagate SATA disk and Sil3112 controller

2008-04-19 Thread Andrew Fenn
I'm thinking this has been fixed? I'm using Gutsy and a Seagate SATA
disk and I am getting the following.

sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
 Timing cached reads: 1770 MB in 2.00 seconds = 885.08 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 172 MB in 3.02 seconds = 56.88 MB/sec

lsmod | grep sata
sata_nv20612 3
libata125168 2 ata_generic,sata_nv

I am not using a Sil3112 controller though so I am guessing that might
be where your problem is?

Could you update this bug report if you're still having problems or
close it, thanks.

[Bug 226868] [NEW] CEGUI needs to be built differently to work with Ogre3D's default scheme

2008-05-05 Thread Andrew Fenn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libcegui-mk2-1

CEGUI must be configured and built with the following option

./configure --with-default-xml-parser=TinyXMLParser

Currently the default parser used is Xerces XML parser which can not
parse the xml scheme files for Ogre3D.

I am running 8.04 but this was also a problem with Gutsy too. I believe
it will also be a problem with any future release.

[Bug 195768] Re: Bad battery runtime in Ubuntu

2008-03-01 Thread Andrew Fenn
It's important to note that if you have two laptops, one running XP, one
running Ubuntu and you let them run down doing nothing. Although the XP
laptop will report a longer battery time, it in fact runs down at the
same time as the Ubuntu laptop.

I have noticed the times get closer and closer together as the time runs
out, until both had the same time.

Please test this out using a stopwatch as this is what has happened in
my tests, on different laptops.

[Bug 82307] Re: Can't copy VCD ".dat" files from CD to Hard Drive

2008-02-25 Thread Andrew Fenn
Ok, so there is a work-a-round which is having to use another program to
rip the VCDs but since the original bug report is about copying them
directly from the disk I feel this isn't fixed at all from a usability
point of view and from the fact that it doesn't deal with my original
problem.

If you view it as a missing feature then mark it as such, I would like
it to be fixed though so others and I will not have problems copying
their VCDs out of the box. If it requires leaving it marked as such in
launchpad then fine, that's what a bug tracker is for.

In short, there is no need to close valid bugs. You might not see it as
a bug, a user trying to copy his VCDs like they do in Windows XP will
and won't be looking for a program. : )

[Bug 66664] Re: xvidcap

2007-11-19 Thread Andrew Fenn
Thanks for the reporting the bug. Could you give a better description of
what you were doing at the time..

How long was your video when it crashed?

Did you close any windows while xvidcap was running? I have noticed that
xvidcap will crash/disappear if you close windows while it is running.

[Bug 118631] Re: Open office crashes when trying to view a slideshow

2007-06-14 Thread Andrew Fenn
I got this email from Andrew Laughton. Adding it to the bug tracker..

"Hi Andrew

Sorry about the delay.
Because it crashes my computer, I left this till last, then forgot about it.
Both of these power point files crash the computer, and I tried a few
older ones as well, which also crash my computer. I could not find
any that did not crash it.
I am now suspicious that it is a graphics card or graphics driver issue.
My motherboard has a built in but disabled graphics port, and my
Nvidia card has two Digital outputs.
Recently I tried to get two monitors happening, but failed.
This might be related, but Open Office is the only thing that behaves this way.

Andrew."

[Bug 76245] Re: Samsung R55 edgy does not dim on low battery

2007-06-01 Thread Andrew Fenn
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

  Problem:
Screen does not dim on a low battery.

  Description:
  I am using a Samsung r55
(http://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/SamsungR55) .

When the battery is running out I get warnings and before the battery
completely runs out Ubuntu shuts down as expected. What it does not do
is dim the screen on a low battery.

- Could this be related to bug #70020 in which I can not even use the
- brightness keys?
-
- I am using Edgy.
+ I am using Fiesty with the latest BIOS update. My brightness controls
+ work.

[Bug 118203] [needs-packaging] Those Funny Funguloids!

2007-06-01 Thread Andrew Fenn
Public bug reported:

"Never before has collecting mushrooms been this mildly entertaining. At
least not in outer space. It's more of a lifestyle than a game, really.
Now with graphics and sound, too!"

Seriously though, we like to think the game as a space-flying-mushroom-
picking-simulator. Well no, "Those Funny Funguloids!" is actually a nice
little piece of entertainment. You collect mushrooms, bring them back to
your home base and profit! That's the basic idea in a nutshell. It has
smooth, appealing 3d graphics and nice atmospheric sound effects. Go
ahead and try it out - it has sounds too!

Those Funny Funguloids needs Ogre version 1.4.1 to run.
